Product Description

John Randall was not a typical rough-hewn bounty hunter of the Old West; he was a consummate gentleman who always gave half - or even all - of his reward money to charity. He was a man of few words and unlike most bounty hunters he carried a modified 1892 Winchester rifle which he wore on his belt and fondly called his "Mare's Lady." Randall's catch phrase "Let's go" launched him into unforgettable classic Western adventures. Steve McQueen stars in the classic hit TV series. Extras include documentary featurettes 3 colorized episodes photo galleries bios and more.System Requirements:TRT: 968 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 787364766499

Excellant series...5
BUT...it would be NICE if Amazon would consider adjusting the product information to reflect what they're selling, and not, apparently, the Rutger Hauer movie of the same name. It's a little difficult for someone who may not be highly familiar with this classic television series to buy it, when EVERYTHING in the product listing was apparently lifted from the other item (probably the vhs form of the movie, no less) rather than someone taking the time to give the correct information for the actual product - a classic television series that deserves far better treatment. C'mon, Amazon...FIX IT! Steve McQueen should at least be getting credit where credit is due!

Wanted Dead or Alive - The TV series4
My two favorite Western TV series were Wanted Dead or Alive and Paladin. I remembered them as being harder edged than the other popular series of the time. So... I bought Season One. After all, this series made Steve McQueen a movie star.

For a trip down nostalgia lane, the purchase was well worth the price, but the quality of the production was a disappointment. The short shooting schedule when television seasons ran longer gives the series a slapdash feel. The good news is that there is more variety in the stories than I remembered, but watching one after the other is not the same as putting a week between viewings. Nowadays, fight scenes have so many cuts, they seem real. In the fifties, there were usually no cuts in the fights sequences, so they often look pretty fake. Another thing Hollywood has gotten good at is casting really bad characters in villain roles. Many of Josh Randall's opponents wouldn't scare a little old lady.

The special features are exceptional. Usually, production companies just throw something together, but New Line Entertainment added some great extra features, including a 6-part McQueen documentary. The featurettes also explain the production problems of the day and display a good sense of humor.

Long Gone...5
Long Gone from t.v., Steve McQueen in "Wanted, Dead or Alive", is filled with hours of good acting, action, & entertainment. Each show is less than 1 hour, so it's like a collection of short stories from the Old West...
