Album Description
Paprika is a Japanese animated film, based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel about a female detective who investigates criminal cases by entering the dreams of her subjects. The film was directed by Satoshi Kon, animated by Madhouse Studios and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on May 25, 2007. The original score was composed by Susumu Hirasawa who also composed the soundtrack for Kon's award-winning film, Millennium Actress, and equally-lauded television series, "Paranoia Agent."
From the Artist
To quote the New York Film Festival, "If Japan's most famous anime filmmaker is Hayao Miyazaki, the most sophisticated is probably Satoshi Kon...His new movie plays like a head-on collision between Hello Kitty and Philip K. Dick...and as the characters shuttle from dream to dream, nightmare to nightmare, Paprika becomes a thrilling tour-de-force of visual invention - every frame is packed with imagination. This delightful movie is bursting with ideas about Japanese repression, multiple identities, collective dreams and the dark side of the country's love of Cute."
About the Artist
Susuma Hirasawa is one of Japan's most cutting-edge electronic musicians. He intricately weaves electronic music and voice with organic instruments to create an orchestral experience unlike anything you've ever heard.

A fantastic film score
I had the immense pleasure of seeing the anime film "Paprika" this past weekend. The animation was visual eye candy with its vibrant colors and original designs. The storyline kept me riveted for all 90 minutes of the film. My favorite aspect of the film though has to be Susumu Hirasawa's film score. I was immediately taken with the music. The style of music is all over the place on this short 43 minute long cd. One minute the music has a catchy techno/pop beat and the next a loud, bombastic marching band sound. My favorite songs on the soundtrack is easily "Parade" (both versions), "Mediational Field", and "The Girl in Byakkoya" by White Tiger Field. This is my first time I have heard of Susumu Hirasawa's work and I must say I loved what I heard. His work is nothing I have ever heard before on any given soundtrack. It is so schizophrenic with its varied sounds yet it works. This is a great souvenir to own after seeing the film (which I absolutely loved).
Great music..Greater movie
If you saw the movie, you will have to buy this soundtrack. If you havent seen the movie, go see it and THEN buy the soundtrack.
Paprika was a visual and auditory carnaval.. Go take the ride.
5000 mph
I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm loving this soundtrack you know? Highly recommended. If you're familiar with Susumu Hirasawa's music on "Millenium Actress" and "Paranoia Agent" you will more than likely enjoy this as well. The most notable tracks are "A Drop Filled with Memories", "Mediational Field" which will urge you to drive 5,000 miles per hour and "Chaser". A well-rounded anime soundtrack that should be HEARD by EVERYONE!
