HOT LICKS TOP PICKS...Over 60 Minutes Of Real Authentic BLUEGRASS INSTRUMENTALS!
Several Tracks Never-Before-Available on CD ...
Continuing with our popular SOUND TRADTITIONS Series and combining it with our hugely successful titles 31 BANJO FAVORITES and 31 FIDDLE FAVORITES comes 31 BLUEGRASS FAVORITES Classic Instrumentals (TOP PICKS & HOT LICKS)
Hot licks have always been part of bluegrass, and this new Sound Traditions collection of 31 BLUEGRASS FAVORITES showcases some of the classic instrumental standards during the hayday of bluegrass including; Old Joe Clark , Mississippi Sawyer , Cripple Creek , Cotton Eyed Joe , Lee Highway Blues , Fireball Mail , Train 45 , Paddy On The Turnpike , John Henry , Ida Red and many more.
These tunes are truly vintage and respected bluegrass classics and are preserved here on this new heritage collection executed with the flair that distinguishes the truly great artists from the rest.
The founder of Rural Rhythm Records, Uncle Jim O Neal, got into the bluegrass record business just as the bigger companies were getting out of it. He saw that the major labels lack of interest in bluegrass left the field wide open. Rural Rhythm was launched in 1955, and helped keep bluegrass and old time music alive during some very lean years by recording hundreds of albums by many legendary bluegrass artists such as Don Reno, Red Smiley, Vassar Clements, Mac Martin, Hylo Brown, Jim Eanes, Earl Taylor, Bill Harrell, Raymond Fairchild and many more.
During the time that Uncle Jim O Neal ran Rural Rhythm, he recorded over 4,000 songs, and captured a unique cross-section of tradition-based American music. The oldest of these tunes crossed the ocean in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; the newest were made up on the spot during the session. They re rendered here in performances that amount to a masterclass in what it takes to be a bluegrass musician.
Each song on 31 BLUEGRASS FAVORITES Classic Instrumentals was remastered from the original master tapes by Steve Hoffman, (a leading mastering engineer in the High End Audio market). The end results are some of the best sounding authentic traditional instrumental bluegrass music available today!

Great music
Great CD! All instrumental with lots of banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle. All upbeat and make-you-want-to-dance pick'n. Not a singe mediocre song in the whole bunch. Just listening to it makes me want to grab my banjo and roll! Exelent for background music for BBQ's, parties, or just to tap your foot and listen to.
Whoever gave it 1 star must not have any appreciation for bluegrass music.
Bluegrass picking.
This collection is first class bluegrass instrumental. There is not a poor track here and the collection features many bluegrass greats eg Don Reno & Raymond Fairchild. I particularly liked Fairchild's version of 'Dixie'. Mac Martin & the Dixie Travellers are superb; and Bob Ensign & the Stump Jumpers are real favourites of mine, with their distinctive sound. If you like bluegrass, you will like this collection.
Easy Listening Bluegrass
This is an easy to listen to CD of Bluegrass music. It is a mix of old and newer artists.
