Works great5
I have 4 or 5 USB enclosures for IDE drives, but this is my first one for a SATA drive. I had a drive in a Raid 1 array fail, so I went ahead and bought 2 new drives, plus this enclosure.

I replaced the drives in my PC, then put one of the old drives in this enclosure. Windows XP SP2 detected it immediately, and I ran Windows Check Disk on it (without choosing the option to Fix errors, which would have required a reboot). 5 minutes later, XP informed me that it could not finish running Check Disk. So there's my bad drive.

I then put the other old drive in it, and Check Disk ran to completion, so I copied all my data to the new drive array in the system. I then discovered that my failed drive was under warranty, so I sent it off for replacement and am back here to buy another enclosure to use with the replacement drive. So I have two great new backup drives.

The only thing I don't like about this enclosure is that the construction is heavy plastic instead of aluminum like my older (different brand) enclosures, but I don't think this will be a problem or I wouldn't have bought another. It also comes with a stand to keep it stable in an upright sideways position to allow heat to dissipate easier. Assembly was very easy since the enclosure is not screwed together when you take it out of the box. The sides pop off with a little pressure, and I'm almost be tempted to use the enclosure without the screws just to make it easier to swap disks in the future. Once the sides are pressed into place and the enclosure is placed into its stand, the sides can't come off without removing it from the stand.

WARNING: ONLY SUPPORTS UP TO 500 GB1
The product description states that this enclosure supports 750gb drives. However, the box states that it only goes up to 500gb. I now have a useless enclosure.

Good enclosure, cheap price, could use more noise dampening3
I had a SATA drive that I decided to use as an external backup solution. I was very pleased to find that these enclosures were reasonably cheap, and went ahead and purchased this one. Very easy to set up and use, though the drive itself makes a fair amount of noise that the enclosure doesn't dampen much.

If you're going to use this all the time you might want to look for something with more noise dampening.
