Peephole of the Future!
I've been looking for this product for a long time. Finally I found it and immediately ordered it.
I love it. It's like having a mini lcd color screen as a peephole. You can see it from several feet away without getting up close to it like you would with a regular peephole.
The only problem is the drill bit you need to use. It's a really hard one to find cheap. 2 3/8"
Other than that it works awesome! I love it.
Save your money
I bought this peep hole for my mom's house. I also had to buy a hole saw for this project since I didn't have this odd ball size in my set of hole saws. When the peep hole arrived , it was bigger than I expected physically. The dimensions are given, but when you actually have the unit in your hand its a lot bigger. The optics a very poor quality and the image is very fuzzy. I decided not to install this unit and butcher up a perfectly good door for a blurry peep hole. Instead I installed a standard type peep hole. Mom was very happy and the optics are very clear. I'm still out about $40 for the hole saw and the wide peep hole.
Both practical and cool
Although this product looks huge when it is first unpacked, it did not look overwhelming on our 8' front door. It gives a wide angle view of what's outside the door, and beyond. We have a covered porch, but the viewer gathers enough light to see anyone standing in the shade. Inside, it's like looking at a tiny LCD screen. Although the product description says "viewable from 7-10 feet", I'd say 4-5 feet is more realistic. One benefit of this item is it allows someone in a wheelchair to easily see who's outside. The silver metal looks like polished chrome; I would like to see it offered in a brushed nickel to more closely match my other door hardware. We had our carpenter install it as he was doing other work for us at the time and I did not have the 2 3/8" drillbit needed. This Doorscope is definitely a conversation piece - everyone who sees it exclaims over it.
