Customer Reviews

Nice DVD Writer for The Price5
Own 5 1040i in 3 computers and they all work well. Black finish blends in well with popular black cases. Previous writer was a 640i so these are a definite upgrade in read/write speed. Would not recommend using Nero software that comes with the drive; use Sonic instead. The only con is that the drives are not SATA. 80-pin PATA ribbon cables are a major source of motherboard clutter especially when multiple DVD and hard drives are used.

Pretty good, No complaints.5
I did have a problem getting it to work on my computer "Compaq 6000" i'd get the error, "I/O device error when trying to use your CD or DVD drive"
This wasn't a problem with the HP dvd burner but with my systems settings. I know this because i returned a LG dvd burner because of the same exact error message. I thought the LG was bad and got this HP 1040i.
If this happens to you just Google, "I/O device error when trying to use your CD or DVD drive" and you'll see how to change your settings.
The HP DVD burner works really well and i've made several back up copies of some of my DVD's. It' comes with Nero software which i really hate, thus i found a great program called DVDfab that does it really good.
I advise using quality blank DVD's because cheapies don't work well. I couldn't get the Dynex Brand dvd to work in it and thats the only time it failed was with that brand. Verbatim is pretty good though.
The LightScribe is really cool and makes nice templates and professional looking labels.
2 weeks of ownership and i'm happy with it and the price here is good.

HP DVD Lightscribe4
Installed easy enough; works great; haven't had any problems yet. Very Fast recording time and CD look great with the Lightscribe. Learned the hard way that labels destroy the CD's; will never use labels again with the unit.
