This collection of wonderful performances by the King of Rock 'n' Roll showcases 15 of his #1 US and UK hits. Culled from his TV guest appearances, movies, concert films and television specials - from 1956, the year his star ascended, to the 1970s when he reached the pinnacle of his career - this is Elvis at his best.
See Elvis perform "Heartbreak Hotel," his first gold record award winner, shortly after the single's release. Marvel at his Ed Sullivan Show performances of "Hound Dog" and (from the waist up only) "Don't Be Cruel." See the matinee idol croon one of his greatest love ballads, "Can't Help Falling in Love," and sing and dance in one of rock music's all-time greatest production numbers, "Jailhouse Rock." Experience Elvis in Las Vegas with an energetic delivery of "Suspicious Minds" and in Hawaii performing a version of "Burning Love" for a global television audience and many more from film and TV.

Elvis for Beginners
The folks at RCA really dropped the ball on this one. When considering the extensive amount of Presley footage, "Elvis #1 Hit Performances" is a half-hearted, slapdash effort. The DVD exists as a sampler for the uninitiated, with poorly edited "bonus material." If RCA had any integrity, they would pull this release off the market and start from scratch.
Full Frame videos from widescreen movies ...
For Elvis fans...this appears to be very fun..a nice collection of clips from old TV appearances and Movies and the TWO BONUS press conferences are absolutely essential. My huge complaint is that the clips from the movies and concert films are presented FULL FRAME..and cropped pretty severely in some cases (like Jailhouse Rock which was a very widescreen film). If you don't mind the cropping of picture then give it an extra couple of stars and enjoy!
REVIEW UPDATE!!
this is now available in the UK (amazon.co.uk) as an NTSC release..with a HUGE exception...it has 30 clips!!! plus the same two bonus features...
its TWICE the material!!! They call it "ELVIS the king of Rock N Roll" and has the gold sticker on the front with the #1's logo....
Pieces of history
These performances of some of Elvis' classic hits are wonderful timepieces. Watch Elvis as is matures from a young, edgy musical revolutionary to the King of Vegas. Most of these apperances were historic and helped shape the evolution of Rock and Roll and popular music. A must for Elvis fans and students of popular music!
