Can't give this enough praise!
This is honestly the perfect trike. My parents bought this for my daughter for her 2nd birthday and we couldn't be more pleased with it. It's sturdy, has the ability to be adjusted for greater longevity and is gorgeous. Its retro-looking (like the old, rounded bikes Schwinn once made) with a sleek design and curvy shape. We got the pink model for my daughter and though I'm not a fan of pink in general, its gorgeous. It makes me think of a mini-pink-lady when she's on it, like I need to get her a pink leather jacket and some motorcycle boots.
Its extremely safe. We tried so many models in different stores and none come close to this one. The back wheels are wide set with large wheels for great stability. All wheels are bycycle-type instead of hard plastic. My daughter can STAND in the seat and turn the wheel (no, we didn't advocate this when she did it) and it won't tip over!
My last kudos is that it was very easy to put together. My husband was away when we got it and I had no problem putting it together (despite lack of experience on my part). A few nuts and bolts here with clear instructions and no problem!
Worth the price and will probably last forever! Go Schwinn!
Our Preschoolers Love This Trike!
Having researched every trike known to Google, I decided to buy two of these for my twins' 3rd birthday presents. My deciding factors were these have metal frames (most trikes now are plastic and lightweight), they are low to the ground so balance is hardly even an issue, and the wheels are proper wheels that inflate not plastic. So comfort and movability are great. The weight, size of tires and low profile makes tipping almost impossible. Another nice thing is that the seat adjusts very easily and can accomodate our 5 year old who has asked for one for HIS birthday. They look cool too. They do need to be assembled but the instructions were good. The first one took me about 10 minutes and the second one took me about 5 minutes. The only negative is that both of the front wheels arrived flat so we had to pump them up before we could use them. Not a big deal and given how cold it is, not surprising there were some flat tires.
Stable and good looking, just a little heavy.
We have the red and the blue for our two two-year olds. One is big for his age and can reach the pedals and the other can just push from the ground.
This is a great trike because it is very stable since it is low to the ground and the rear wheels are far apart. This already came in handy when one son took a turn going down a very slight hill. He stayed upright when I am sure another trike would have tipped. Being low to the ground also makes it easier to push with one's feet (this helps my smaller son).
The trike's stability also helps with mounting and dismounting. We looked at a Radio Flyer trike and found it was easy for a kids foot to get caught on the seat or the tube dismounting the trike, causing a fall. No problem with this trike, getting on and off is very easy.
We also like the pneumatic tires and the retro look. We get lots of compliments from the neighbors. Our friends have the expensive trikes (Kettler?) and we certainly prefer the Schwinn over those which seem to be cheap plastic and are so loud because of the plastic wheels. The push bar and one pedal on their Kettlers broke, indicating to me that they aren't that durable.
The only bad size is that it is heavy. This hasn't come into play, both kids can push the trike around with their feet, even up a slight hill.
