Review
Many in the audience hadn't heard of Eric Bibb before he opened for Etta James last year at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. But he quickly captured thejazz festival crowd with his inspired, and inspiring, blend of originaland traditional acoustic blues and gospel. The standing ovation he got that night in Montreal was for a show similar to this one recorded in Australia. Most of the 65-minute set is devoted to Bibb's own songs, ranging from powerful, gospel-infused numbers including Don't Ever Let
Your Spirit Down, to gentler, Piedmont-style blues like Panama Hat. Hisversions of traditional material, gleaned from the likes of Odetta and
Reverend Gary Davis, are magnificent. Bassist Dave Bronze lends finebottom-end support to Bibb's excellent vocals and guitar playing. ****1/2 --Montreal Gazette

Buy This CD4
I have only listened to a couple of Eric Bibb's recording but I do find them enjoyable. He is not as "pop" as say Keb Mo. If you appreciate fingerstyle arrangements of ballad type songs you will enjoy this. This is more in the folk /blues vain of say Mississippi John Hurt as opposed to Robert Johnson. Again Buy This CD.

Essential Bibb4
Back in 2002, a mate insisted that I watch a dvd of this blues guitarist and vocalist playing a gig at Sydney's premier jazz venue The Basement. He proclaimed it to be an amazing performance and knew that I'd love it. His father was obsessed with the dvd and had already viewed it over a dozen times before he had shown me. That dvd was my introduction to Eric Bibb (Eric Bibb with Dave Bronze - Live At The Basement). Let's just say I was blown away and was hooked from then on. That dvd is the same performance which is on this cd, 'Evening With Eric Bibb' and is an essential recording in ANYONE'S record collection who even remotely enjoys jazz/soul/blues.

What a voice, what personality and what an inspiration! Eric Bibb's songwritting and guitar playing is just brilliant and this live performance captures everything beautiful about this musician's talent.

If Eric Bibb is the diamond on this disk, Dave Bronze (bass player) would be the gold. He adds so much to the accompanyment of Eric's songs and then inproves on them. The highlight moment on this recording for me is his sublime bass solo on the divinely beautiful and heartfelt track 'For You'. If ever there was a perfect bass solo, this is it! All feel and flowing with every note counting, Dave Bronze nails it on this one. Throughout the entirety of this live performance, Bronze is so spot on and it is just amazing how these two musicians sound so full and rich.

Nothing more needs to be said so just do yourself a favour and give this cd a listen.

Great live album4
