Terrible
While the headphones themselves are decent, the remote part of this product is completely unusable. If you listen carefully, you'll hear a soft bzz...bzz...bzz... continuously in the background whenever the remote is plugged into your PSP. I've tried multiple headphones plugged straight into the PSP and have not had this problem. I've also tried plugging different sets of headphones into this remote (the headphones that come with this are detachable, so any set of headphones can be used with the remote section), and no matter which pair I use, I hear the buzzing noise.
I know this problem isn't unique to me either. I've come across posts on various online forums where other users have this problem too.
I love my new PSP-2000, but Sony really screwed up with this headphone/remote control set. There really is no reason to buy this product. Just spend your money on a nice set of headphones and hope that Sony releases a fixed remote control.
Great remote - perhaps I got a revised version?
Like many recent reviewers, I also have had ZERO problems with this remote. It may be likely that Sony revised later batches, because even using my super-clear ZAGG z.bud earphones everything sounds exactly the way it does as if I just plugged the headphones in.
Aside from that, the remote itself is great. The clip itself could grip a bit more, but I consider it more than fine if you're stationary. The fast forward and reverse buttons are a tad small, and I wish they had more of a texture so that I could just feel them without looking down. Still, I got used to it quickly!
The earphone port is open, so you don't have to use the stock Sony earphones that come with the set.
The remote also comes with a Hold switch just like the PSP. Redundant, you may say. Not so! You can put your PSP system in Hold mode so that only the remote itself is active. This is great for when you have your PSP in a pocket.
The extra length added to your earphones might be a tad more than you want, but it's not unmanageable. If anything, the extra length is made from very smooth, sturdy wrapped plastic, so it won't tangle on itself.
Overall, I really like this remote. It's not necessarily a must-have accessory, but for travelers who want to travel lean and make their PSP their one electronic entertainment device, this certainly makes for a fine companion to the system.
Good headphone, OK remote
Very nice headphones. Remote does every thing advertised as well some additional stuff like hissing sound when there is no music playing. It is hard to believe Sony QA missed such a big thing. There is no other way to connect a headset... so we just have to live with the hissing and clicking sounds.
You need the remote and you can use iPhone headset or other similar headsets for Skype.
