Por Toda Minha Vida Lenita Bruno, Jobim And de Moraes Lay Down Some Roots With One of Their First Major Works
Rio de Janeiro's local music community had come to depend on Jobim by the early to middle 50's.
He help shape alot of careers.
His songbook possessed lots of fresh material, notes jumped off the page, alluring arrangements.
By the late 50's Jobim had a good command how a recording studio operates.
His world must've been thrown upside down and come full circle when he met Vinicius de Moraes.
Vinicius has a unique way with a melody.
Never at a loss for words and music.
A unceasing fountain of ideas. I would've been a little jealous.
That didn't stop them.
Rio was up on what is hip.
A partnership was formed.
1957 to 1959 proved fruitful for the duo.
A string of hits led to one of their first LP's, showcasing 13 of their original songs.
Por Toda Minha Vida (For The Rest Of My Life) featuring Lenita Bruno.
Lenita Bruno, what a lovely voice. Enchanting.
Versed in Classics and American Pop Standards.
A formative medium for the project.
Lenita's husband, Leo Perrachi help write the arrangements for Por Toda Minha Vida.
Any fan will recognise most of the songs.
Por Toda Minha Vida, Estrada Branca, Soneto Da Separacao, Valsa De Orfeu, Es Sei Que Vou Te Amar, Canta, Canta Mais, Modinha, Eu Nao Existo Sem Voce.
Hypnotic songs, a number of them formerly recorded by other artist during the late 50's such as Carlos Jose, Albertinho Fortuna, and Vanja Orico.
The majority make their debut, 13 songs so well loved, they'd resurface on future cuts by Maria Bethania, Elis Regina, Miucha, Paula Morelenbaum and appear on Jobim's Inedito LP, and ultimately, the legendary Symphonic Jobim.
I can listen to Por Toda Minha Vida Lenita Bruno while working, sitting in my easy chair or have it on in the background while chatting to my neighbor.
It's a very serious work, it hearkens to the day when families used to sit around the living room and listen to their favorite Arias.
It's Jobim's and de Moraes love letter to the world, message in a bottle.
The CD has a reproduction of a very important handwritten letter in Portuguese that was included in the original liner notes expressing Jobim's gratitude, dated 1959.
Just like the image on the original front cover of freshly turned earth basking in the sun, all the tracks touch my heart.
Room to grow and expand.
The last track, Eu Nao Existo Sem Voce has a way of coming to me in the quiet times of the day and night when my heart is open and receptive to outside signals.
The words and melody approach me like a distant ray of light that comes closer and surrounds me in its' warmth.
Por Toda Minha Vida Lenita Bruno.
Good Medicine.
A thing of beauty for all time.
Look for the anniversary edition on the Festa Irineu Garcia Label.
