Duchin Remembered
This is the re-release of a memorable soundtrack recording of the Columbia biopic about the gifted pianist and superlative bandleader, Eddy Duchin, who had evolved a distinctive appealing sophisticated sound. His tragic early death at the age of 41 robbed us of his wonderful talent. This CD contains two complete albums by the pianist, Carmen Cavallaro, a musical force in his own rite. After the initial release of the original soundtrack album, Cavallaro released a personal tribute album, "Eddy Duchin Remembered". Both complete albums are here on this one CD. This is a remarkable celebration of a great musician that we all lost too soon. After hearing the glowing contents of this CD, you may well want to hear the original. Luckily, there are many fine CD releases of Eddy Duchin's own recordings that we may sample with great pleasure!
This is the real soundtrack
For those looking for the soundtrack album, this is it. This is exactly the same as my cassette tape of the soundtrack, plus some additional oldies but goodies for piano lovers like me. Great album. That man could play the piano. Love it.
REAL Piano Playing
Carmen Cavallaro was probably the "master" of the very flowery, "society piano" genre. A bit much in the arpeggio department at times, but flawless playing from an era that no longer exists. Elegance and class have definitely been lost in today's world. The movie, and this soundtrack were one of the things that influenced me to become a musician in the first place. If beautiful ballrooms, beautiful women in evening gowns, men in tux, and "high society" appeal to you, this is the music for you. The orchestrations are lush an perfectly performed. If your idea of good music is rap or 3 guys thrashing away at guitars and screaming while wearing rags, this is definitely NOT for you!
