The Bangkok Opera's bold production of Puccini's immortal opera was directed by Henry Akina and stars Nancy Yuen and Israel Lozano. The Siam Philharmonic is conducted by Somtow Sucharitkul. A startling Asian viewpoint for this opera, praised by the Nation as a "truly exciting production".

Dispite its flaws, worth viewing ... once!
I have mixed reactions to this. In some ways better than I expected, but not up to what I'd hoped for. It does not have subtitles, which might be okay for some viewers. However, Amazon should have noted this at it is a disappointment, expecting that it would have subtitles, then discovering that it does not.
On the plus side, Pinkerton in the person of Israel Lozano, is superb both in voice, looks and acting ability. It's almost worth buying, owning for Lozano, but not quite. The orchestra is decent. The sound is not bad. But the miking and sound is uneven with some voices booming through while others are difficult to hear. Finally, Nancy Yuen, while authentically Asian, has a stridency to her voice that is jolting. Also, she does not look young and innocent, as I would have liked.
Overall, I'd recommend renting this if you can, see it once. But, save your money unless you can afford to pay for this as an appealing, but ultimately disappointing production.
