Con man Frank Fay goes to get a haircut from barber Billy Gilbert after skipping out on his hotel bill, and also tries to swindle Billy. However, the two work things out, become friends, and Billy ends up inviting Frank to his home. When Frank how wonderfully Billy can sing, and Frank convinces him to create an act together. The film charts the gradual succes of their vaudville and singing act, with the big treat being able to watch the great vaudville, comedy, and musical acts of 1943 performing with the duo. The plot heads towards a dramatic ending where one of the duo must make an emotional choice between staying together or allowing their partner to have a shot at being a famous radio singer.
