Sound of Holy Heaven
I would highly recommend this collection of Sr. Marie Keyrouz. Her voice truly captures the essence of the Maronite faith. She is the Fayrouz of the religious. The collection of songs are the actual songs sung during Maronite Mass. It is an authentic representation of the Maronite Lebanese Mass. Brava, Sr. Keyrouz, Brava!!
awesome
Maronites are an obscure Christian sect with roots in the 6th century AD - who have been living ever since in their beautiful Lebanese mountain strongholds. With respect to music, their liturgy is much closer to original Christian tonalities, instrumental use and overall design that the Catholic/Protestant/Orthodox hymns most of us are familiar with.
In other words, this, not The Silent Night, is what Jesus' followers would hear thousands of years ago.
It is amazing to listen to what to me sounds like Arabic songs and know this may actually be the Christian mass. (Actually, and i may be wrong here, the language of the songs may be Syriac, an ancient local language). The songs are beautiful and haunting. Sister Keyrouz delivers them with purity, power, passion and surrender to the Divine - through the vibrations of her singing one becomes a better person. I had a similar experience listening to Choying Drolma's (Tibetan) songs in 'Cho'.
Yes, this is amazing stuff.
