Despite its title, director Whit Stillman's follow-up to Metropolitan and Barcelona isn't really about disco at all. It's more a story about young people coming of age, friends all a bit out of touch with the direction in which their lives are headed. So it makes sense that the songs included here--mostly disco chestnuts--are far from groundbreaking. Contributions from Alicia Bridges, Diana Ross, Chic, and Sister Sledge are safe bets that give the film its Studio 54 shadings. Eveyln "Champagne" King's "I Don't Know If It's Right" and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' "The Love I Lost" may the lack the quirks of "Doctor's Orders" by Carol Douglas and "Let's All Chant" by the Michael Zager Band, but it still makes for a solid, fun collection of disco tunes. --Jason Verlinde

Customer Reviews

People all over the world..... join in and buy this CD5
It's got long tunes(Shame, The love I lost), tunes you have never heard(Oogum Boogum Song), tunes you haven't heard in twenty plus years(More,More,More, Doctor's Orders) and tunes you will never be able to get out of your head(ALL OF THE ABOVE). 17 songs on this album and the only one I don't care for is the modernised version of Got to be Real. When the first Pure Disco CD came out I was really into it because it had some hard to find tracks. This CD blows that away. THIS IS PURE DISCO and is essential to any fan. They also didn't cop out and throw some half-baked songs and try to make two CD's worth of incomplete songs. This CD is disco bliss.

Fun Disco Compilation!4
Soundtracks with pure 70's disco is uncommon and this is one album with some great selections. You get the hard to find classic like "Let's All Chant" which has the capability to bring out those who never dance. There's the seductive "More, More, More" and the romantic "I Love the Nightlife" which are perfect for that special someone in your life. I love the extended version of "The Love I Lost" and "Got to Have Loving" is so mesmerizing. The only thing I have against this CD is the last track. Instead of unfamiliar repeats, why not another hit like "Born to Be Alive?" Relive the music all over again! Check out the "54" soundtracks as well. You will grow to appreciate them!

MORE, MORE, MORE5
The undisputed king of disco movie soundtracks (apart of course for Saturday Night Fever, duh), absolutely rox. Sister Sledge get the ball rolling with "He's The Greatest Dancer", and it just gets better with "Shame", "Everybody Dance", "More, More, More", "Doctor's Orders", and of course "I Love the Nightlife". Exceptional recording.
