Customer Reviews
For all you DVD Audio fans....
This DVD Audio presentation of Ringo is absolutely breath taking. The selections are solid and the separation is magnificent. If you own a DVD audio system, this is a must have purchase.
Wonderfully sounding pure simple pop
We all know that Ringo Starr is not the best of the musicians in the world, but I'm sure we know that he was the one in charge of, together with Paul McCartney, creating The Beatles's rhythm section. And we mustn't forget that, despite the fact that he has never been a composer a-la-Lennon & McCartney, his judgements and commentaries were crucial for the development of some of their (Lennon & McCartney's) songs. After The Beatles his career was irregular, at times horrible (Ringo the 4th, Bad Boy). But thanks to his back to roots, thanks to the different reincarnations of his All Starrs Band, and his quitting dangerous ways of life, he managed to produce brilliant pop records, such as Time Takes Time, Vertical Man, Ringo Rama, Choose Love, or his most recent output Liverpool 8. All of them represent the essence of sixties pop: vocal harmonies, guitar licks, drum patterns, bass phrases, simple lyrics...
You may not want to have all those records. Probably, one after the other, especially the Mark Hudson produced ones, may sound quite similar. But, hey! why don't you try this selection of brilliant pop tunes, which perfectly encapsulate Ringo Starr's vision of music, called Ringo 5.1? The 5.1 mix is simply delicious and marvellous. You get to appreciate the musicality of the recordings, the simplistic finesse of Ringo's drumming. His voice may not sound as powerful as Lennon's or McCartney's... you do know that for sure! But listen to this record, 5.1 mix, without prejudice, expecting pop in its purest manifestation, with all the ingenuity that goes with it. If you want to learn what's pop, listen to this.
Thank you very much Ringo for keeping vertical.
Great DVD-Audio - From An Audiophile
WOW! Ringo Starr? I would have never thought but what a great upbeat album. All the tunes are very enjoyable - lots of fun, the way music used to be and needs to be again. The DVD-Audio is superb, but throw the cd in the car and it ain't coming out. Ringo - what a great compilation...
