Works great
This D2 works just fine for me. I am using it on my Mac Powerbook pro. At first it did not see it then it pickup on it and has been running fine ever since. Haven't tried the lightscribe yet...I have lightscribe on my other computers.
If you own a Mac, the Firewire option is very versatile.
I create DVDs for my wife's marching and concert bands, and was looking for a nice way to label my DVDs. I didn't want to deal with printing labels and such, so I decided on Lightscribe, after seeing several demos online. I can't remember why I chose LaCie, but I purchased my first external Lightscribe DVD drive from them over three years ago. Last year, I purchased my second LaCie drive. Now, I'm considering a third. Why? Well, the Lightscribing process takes between 15-20 minutes to complete, per DVD. It's 15 minutes for the normal quality, and 20 minutes for the very detailed quality, using Lacie's Lightscribe Labeler (I use a MacBook). I love lightscribe, but it takes a while to label each DVD. This is where Firewire is so important. If you daisy-chain your LaCie external drives together with Firewire, the LaCie Lightscribe Labeler actually recognizes all of them, and you can Lightscribe simultaneously! This is huge...my entire labeling system is scalable.
-Oh, I haven't tried this for burning DVDs...only for Lightscribing. I purchased a Disc Makers Reflex duplicator to handle the DVD burning.
FYI: On the LaCie external burners, they have a little blue light on the front, left side of the unit...this indicates when the unit is on. But, this is also the power button. Just click it to turn the burner on or off. (I found this out when I purchased my second drive.)
Enjoy!
La Cie DVD RW is awsome
This does just what it's supposed to do. I used it on 3 different computers. A desktop with Windows XP Pro, a laptop with XP Home and an iMac with X 10.5. All worked great. Price point was mid range but I like La Cie products for long term reliability and dependability.
