Inspired by groups such as Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, Las Vegas quintet the Cab was founded by then-students Alex DeLeon (vocals) and Cash Colligan (bass) in 2005 after the two met during high school. The duo began recording demos, but it quickly became evident that a complete band would be needed for them to realize their full potential. DeLeon and Colligan recruited Alex Johnson (drums), Alex Marshall (piano), and Ian Crawford (guitar), began playing shows locally, and built up a fan base before sending a demo to Panic at the Disco's Spencer Smith. Smith was so impressed with the band that he helped them sign to the Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen label in 2007. The Cab's debut album, Whisper War, was produced by Matt Squire and released in 2008, followed by several national tours alongside the likes of Hey Monday and the Hush Sound. ~ Katherine Fulton, All Music Guide

Best release of 2008 so far...5
For any of you who follow current music releases, you probably are aware that the last 6 months have been very dry. Not many good bands have released CDs, and the ones that have (like Panic At The Disco) released horrible albums. Perhaps in a year like 2006 with so many great releases, this CD would've gone unnoticed. But probably not.

The Cab's debut album is a perfect, delicious mix of pop/punk and pop/rock, with a touch of solid lyrics and great vocals. These songs do not create anything new or original (don't buy if you like Radiohead a lot), but they do perfect the string of pop/rock albums that have been coming out since the mid 90's and derive influences from classic pop like Fleetwood Mac and Journey.

The songs are at turns sexy ("High Hopes In Velvet Ropes"), sweet ("Zzzzz"), emotional ballad ("Vegas Skies", a highlight, and "I'll Run"), bitter ("One Of THOSE Nights"), and amazingly perfect pop that brings Maroon 5, N*Sync, and the All-American Rejects together seamlessly ("Bounce"). Every single person I have played that latter song for has immediately fallen in love.

To sum up: check out this CD. Unless you don't have any appreciation for great pop music. Then let it be for us who enjoy a not-so-guilty pleasure.

Track-by-track:
1. One Of THOSE Nights - 4.5/5 - lead single, one of the album's rock moments.
2. Bounce - 5/5 - Best track on the album...sweet like candy.
3. I'll Run - 4.5/5 - great song all around.
4. High Hopes In Velvet Ropes - 5/5 - N*Sync with guitars. Better than it may seem.
5. That 70's Song - 4/5 - solid pop/rock.
6. Take My Hand - 3.5/5 - slightly weaker, but still enjoyable.
7. Risky Business - 5/5 - the album picks back up with this catchy track "hide the key, cause I'm coming over..."
8. I'm A Wonder - 3/5 - not up to par with the rest of the CD.
9. Zzzzz - 5/5 - yes, there are 5 z's...I counted. Bad title, great song.
10. Vegas Nights - 5/5 - the ballad. Grasp your heart and smile.
11. Can You Keep A Secret? - 4/5 - solid pop/punk track.
12. This City Is Contagious - 3/5 - still having trouble getting into it...perhaps a weak ending, or perhaps the next CD will make up for it.

Amazing5
This is an amazing debut CD for The Cab...they are so talented! Check out"High Hopes in Velvet Ropes" it has a great techno sound and extremely cool. Been waiting a long time for the boys from Vegas to release this CD it is definitely worth buying. This band is going far!
