Customer Reviews

Very Good DVD Drive4
I'm very pleased with the performance and quality of this optical drive. I have an HP so it works seamlessly with the unit.

Positive Summation: Works every bit as great as the included optical drive.

Negative Summation: TigerDirect has very poor customer service when I contacted them regarding this product. Sadly, the two gentlemen I spoke with over the phone have helped me in my decision to never purchase from TigerDirect again. Big deal, right? I'm one customer but they can bite the big one :o)

Not reliable1
When it works, this drive is great. Creates nice CDRs and DVD-Rs with custom labels. Very useful.

The problem is that the drive doesn't work for long. The one that was originally installed in my HP Media Center PC worked perfectly for a little over a year, then started burning DVDs that would "freeze up" about half-way through when played on other DVD players. Since it had just gone out of warrantee, I had to go out and buy a replacement.

I got the replacement 1070i drive installed with no problem, although I had to load a bunch of Nero software that came with it (which I didn't really want since I already had perfectly good CD/DVD/Lightscribe software) or else the lightscribe feature wouldn't work.

But I did manage to get the drive up and running and it worked beautifully for about a month and a half. Then I started noticing a "flick, flick, flick" noise when it played CDs, which got progressively worse the further into the disc it played.

I called HP's tech support and was told to send them an email describing the problem with a scan of the receipt. I did so, and nearly a month went by with no response. So I called again and was told that they never got my email. In the meantime, the DVD burner has gone bad and I'm back to DVDs that will play for 50 minutes and then "freeze up".

I called again and was told to re-send my email. I'm still waiting for a response.

At this point I'd rather just get my money back and buy a different brand (I'll never buy an HP burner again, nor any other HP product for that matter), but I doubt that will happen.

no bat but could be better4
SATA connection on the unit tends to break, should make it strong, I had to glue and paste to make the miracle of running it. by the way he has behaved quite well and I have not had any problem except for the connector.
