Skil 4690 Reconditioned Jigsaw -- with warning
The Skil 4690 reconditioned jigsaw arrived very quickly. The 4690 seemed initially to be good quality, powerful and sturdy. This is a big deluxe model, not a cheap compact unit. **BUT**: the quality and quality-control of Skil refurbishing is incredibly horrible !!!

The product arrives with NO EDGE GUIDE and NO BLADES. Finding the Edge Guide (enables cutting exact straight lines and neat circles) is impossible; greatly reducing both tool utility and versatility. None of this is disclosed in product ads or descriptions.

The unit I received arrived with the Roller Guide of a cheaper, smaller model rather than the correct one, and served no useful function 1/2 inch behind the blade. The shoe or sole plate Release Lever (supposed to permit quick and easy adjustment of cutting angle) was attached to nothing, simply pressed into the wrong place, so When touched it fell off. After very careful inspection, there was clearly no place whatsoever for it to have been attached to the bottom of the 4690 jig saw or function as intended.

CPO, the reseller for my particular order, pushed off all responsibility for sloppy work and resolution to SKil; plus the hassle, time and freight cost for shipping a heavy hand tool back to Skil for highly questionable service onto me. Since Skil does its own refurbishing, it doesn't matter where you buy a Skil refurbished units, the quality is very likely be just as terrible. (I have to question whether Skil sibling brand, Bosch, is any better.)

Save yourself weeks or months of phone calls, hassles, buck-passing and expense... LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR REFURBISHED TOOLS FROM A MANUFACTURER WHO CARES ABOUT QUALITY !!!

Excellent Jigsaw - Reconditioned Value!

I am not master craftsman - just a casual guy that has to do small projects around home. I did not want to buy anything fancy and thus started my search on Amazon. I found this and figured why not give it a shot....reconditioned to me usually means that whatever was wrong with it new has now been fixed by the factory. Sure enough...that was the case.

The jig-saw came directly from SKIL in a few days. The box had the tool and the manual....and yes it looked a bit used...not BRAND spanking new. But that does'nt really matter.....as long as it works and works well.

Features a laser guide, dust blower, dust capture, and that little rotary you see on top.....it allows you to move the blade around while cutting.

Small project one was to make a speaker bracket for a car mount. This thing had no issues cutting circles and it worked perfectly. I had a helper and he owns a few jig-saw's....but he too loved this unit and is buying one at this price.

5/5 - coming from a beginner.

Skil 4690
The reconditioned tool was never used and purchased at 62% off retail. This saw is powerful and will easily cut metal, wood, plastic or any thing you put in front of the blade. The saw is full featured and laser guided at a very low price.

There is no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for an excellent saw when you can get a good as new high perfomance jigsaw for about $50. Has equal power to a much higher priced Bosch. Better than anything DeWalt makes.
