Customer Reviews

Skil-X5
This clamp works great on an already great workbench. Easy to attach and it's way better than holding a piece of word in your hand while using an electric planer in the other. Much safer and you don't have to worry about shaving skin parts.

Decent accessory for the X-Bench3
I should begin this review by stating that I really wanted a real woodworkers' bench, but decided to try the X-Bench because I am really short on workspace in my garage. The ability to use a tail vise on the bench was a positive, and so it was the first accessory for the bench that I added (I also have the jig saw insert now---see my review of that, too). The tail vise is pretty easy to install and is made from the same thick slab of MDF material that the benchtop is made from. The rails and screw that open and close the vise are made of steel, but the knob that turns the screw is plastic and seems a little cheesy. One of the bolts required for installation was defective, so I called Skil and asked them to send me a replacement---they said I should just send the whole thing back to Amazon. Since the vise was fine except for that one bolt, I got a replacement myself from the hardware store.

Once fully installed, the vise opens and closes fairly smoothly, with just a little bit of racking, and the vise lines up flush with the bench top. The vise can clamp quite strongly and will hold whatever you want to put in it.

Ultimately, the utility of the vise is limited more by the bench than by the vise itself. For example, if you want to hand plane a board inserted on edge into the vise, the bench will rock quite a bit. On the other hand, if you are planing with the length of the bench---say, if you are planing the surface of board---it's more stable. Adding a 50-lb bag of softener salt on the unused portion of the bench top seems to help, too.

So, yes, it will work for woodworking, but just remember that you are working on a 50 lb portable bench, not a 300 lb maple bench. For now, it's what I have room for, and I think it will be serviceable for my needs.

Excellent table!!!5
This table is much better then expected! Yes, it is very-very heavy as mentioned by other customers. However, I consider this as a plus because it makes this table very stable. This purchase worth every penny!
