The Teen Sex Epidemic: A Comprehensive Solution That the Government is Missing Teens, Sex & Health DVD Education, by EduCouch. The CDC released a recent study that has shown that one in four teenage girls, out of a total of 3.2 million teenage girls, is infected with at least one of four sexually transmitted diseases. In turn, a group of experts have come together to produce a tool that has not yet been produced by those such as the CDC, existing school systems, government-based organizations, etc., in order to help stop the spread of the teen sex and sexually transmitted disease epidemic. An educational DVD, Teens Sex and Health, part of the Educouch DVD Series, is now available through select retail locations within the domestic US and globally online. Throughout time, there has not been this type of resource available to parents, educators and to the general public, until now, with Teens, Sex & Health - the ultimate, long awaited and highly anticipated answer. The CDC recently drew shocking statistics from a national survey sampling 838 girls. Human papilloma virus (HPV) had infected 18 percent of the girls, chlamydia infected 4 percent, trichomoniasis infected 2.5 percent and genital herpes infected 2 percent. Among the girls in the study who said they had had only one sex partner, 20 percent were infected. STDs can result in pelvic inflammatory disease and even infertility. A high percentage of infected teens also possess a substantial health risk to others. (source: CDC.gov) How does a parent or educator talk to a teen about sex and sexual education? There is an urgent need for this important conversation, but there may be uncertainty of how or when. Though most parents realize the topic of sexuality needs to be brought up and discussed, it is a difficult subject to talk about with a child or young adult. There are a lot of myths, rumors and outdated facts about sex and sexuality. Teenagers will inevitably be faced with these topics, and primary sexual health educators are needed. Get accurate, up-to-date information by taking matters into your own hands, through the compilation of facts, direction, and instructional education, with a group of experts. As the experts with Teens, Sex & Health regularly provide teens and young adults with sexual education, they have gathered the most pertinent points to share with your viewers and to provide a realistic point-of-view. This EduCouch Series makes awkward times less stressful on parents and those educating teens and young adults. The DVD features seven experts in all fields related to Sexual Education. After watching the program, those viewing will be informed on everything from protection to sexual pharmacology. These vital facts may one day influence the decisions shaping their overall health and happiness. At the same time, the content contained within the DVD is kept appropriate. This is real talk and real education. Teens and young adults will learn about female reproductive health, male reproductive health, sex 101, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV & AIDS education, drugs and alcohol, establishing values and dating and relationships. It also includes a message for parents. Teens, Sex & Health should be viewed by those 11-12 years old and older. This DVD provides accurate, interesting and vital content and information in order to properly educate and keep the interest of those watching. Teaching children, teens and young adults to ride a bike, drive a car, and not speak with strangers is second nature. But to stop there and not teach them about their own body, safe sex and relation between the two is a tragedy. Especially when it can be as easy as placing a DVD into the player. There is no excuse. The Government has spoken heavily in regard to the indication of the problem, but no one has provided a tool to remedy the problem. Now there is such a tool. --News-Line for nurse practitioners.

Parent's Choice 2008 Silver Honor AWARD WINNER - Ugh. Time for The Talk? It's not a fun moment for kids or parents, but having a conversation about sex is important, especially as children are maturing at younger ages and are constantly bombarded by sexual images on television, in movies and in magazines. You have lots of choices. Many books and videos address sex. Some are simplistic and cartoonish and may be more appropriate for younger kids. Some are fact-based and dry, so as to avoid any hint of judgment or morality. This two-disc set, Teens, Sex & Health, approaches the topic in a clear, yet conversational and realistic, tone. It's likely, that kids who are 13 - 18 will greatly benefit from this - or parts of this - as well. Teens are not interviewed; it's not about their experiences. Instead, the videos present information from an array of doctors and medical professionals, including a urologist, a sexologist and a gynecologist. It's like going to the doctor to talk about sex without having to go to the doctor to talk about sex. Eight segments - Message to Parents, Female Reproductive Health, Male Reproductive Health, Sex 101, Birth Control, Sexually Transmitted Diseases & Infection, HIV/AIDS Education and Drugs & Alcohol Effects on Sexual Health -- are divided into 43 chapters, allowing for easy viewing of just one topic at a time. Topics are detailed, but not overly so, and include ;Puberty,Circumcision,Pap Smear,Urinary Tract Infection,Oral Sex,Same Sex Relations and more. Every type of birth control is explained. One note: Planned Parenthood plays heavily in the program, with a representative suggesting many times that it is a resource for parents and teens. However, doctors stress that families should help guide and inform children about sex according to their traditional and religious beliefs. The main message from the doctors is: healthy sexuality.Everyone - regardless of gender or sexual preference - should understand what's happening and what risks are involved to be able to make informed, healthy decisions. Think about: How is this going to affect my life? one doctor poses. But the doctors also advise that sex isn't just a physical act. The emotions involved are powerful and should be respected. One section is devoted to the Kinds of Intimacy in Relationships. Another message strongly conveyed is: Don't do something you don't want to do And in the same-sex discussion, a doctor recommends finding a support group to help navigate through those waters. I would be willing to bet that even if you have talked to your kids about sex, there's something on this program you haven't addressed, or maybe didn't even know. It's valuable and smart, easy to use, and focuses on healthy behaviors. No matter what your personal beliefs, that's a good starting point for a discussion about sex. Good for parents, not the classroom because lacking pictures3
I am a health teacher for middle school students and I was looking for materials to supplement my lectures. Unfortunately, this is just lecture on video. We used it a little bit in class just so the kids could see someone else talking about the same stuff but should be used in small doses.

I can see parents liking this video if they want to get caught up on the latest information regarding sexual education or if they are too embarrassed to discuss some of the topics and prefer the "so, do you have any questions?" at the end of the segments.

The good thing is that it covers a lot of topics that have come up often in the classroom (and some that the kids don't know how to ask, but should be discussed anyway) so it's nice to see something comprehensive...it's just lacking any kind of interesting visuals for students who are forced to watch it in the first place.

One of the Best Books on the Subject5
If you're looking for help in telling your kids about sex this is a great DVD! It's fantastic!I
I recommend this as a great supplement to the actual talk parents have with their kids - it's a whole lot less embarrassing!

A serious and effective tool to educate teens5
newjhonny's review is absolutely inaccurate, you are probably for abstinence only education and i am certain that this is for you a good way to harm the only DVD on the market promoting comprehensive education in this country. You have never left any other review, and your first one is just a very nasty one..is it a coincidence ? This program has been made and produced by real experts that go to schools to talk to teens about this important topic. This DVD gives a chance to every teen in this country to get this important and accurate life saving information but these same well trained experts. It is a serious matter and the approach is serious too. It is boring may be for you, because this program has not been produced like a cartoon for a 7 years old kid. This program is designed with a very detailed navigation menu so teens don't have to watch 4 hours of program in one time. Educators and Parents, can prepare 4 sessions of 60 minutes each and educate teenagers with real trained experts who are dealing with this epidemic every day. It is a serious matter and is presented as a lecture not as a reality show. There is no program like this one out there and we are proud of having the chance to produce it. This program is a real tool to help reduce the STDs and HIV epidemic in this country that concern more than 25% of US teens according to a CDC survey in March 2008. Teenagers should not be treated like infants, and this is why this program is APPEALING to teens, but it's projection has to be organized and programed and supervised by adults, either parents or school educators or both. After each session of 60 minutes each, adults should have a 15 minutes group discussion. It has been proven very successful with small group of teens. This program will be presented for several award considerations before the end of the year.
