Leaves me wanting MORE asap!
I first heard Justin Nozuka in the car on Sirius radio's Coffeehouse station - and immediately started saying his name over and over to myself so I wouldn't forget it when I got home. That one listen to "After Tonight" on Sirius was enough for me to get the CD as quickly as I could.
I was NOT disappointed. In fact, I've been listening to it more than anything else since it arrived.
A great mix of uptempo, bluesy tracks and thought-provoking sultry ones makes for what I consider a perfect CD. Justin's voice is smooth and he makes it all sound effortless with such control and feeling I lose myself to the songs. Some of my favorites:
Track #2, Golden Train - a feel good rhythm, it's hard to sit still, lyrics that make me smile everytime!
Track #3, Be Back Soon - LOVE this track's bluesy ache, seductive proclaimations!
Track #6, After Tonight - this one got me hooked as I noted above but it really only scratches the surface of what this CD has to offer.
Track #7, Criminal - more bluesy energy, yet it's got the components to be a great hit. It seems like the kind of song that a pub full of friends would sing along to while dancing in their chairs, finding it impossible not to move and feel alive.
Track #10, Save Him - will tear your heart out. A dark story yet sung with such feeling, emotion, conviction - I don't know what you'd call it, but perhaps one of the greatest things about music is that it can make you FEEL, and Justin Nozuka is at the top of my list of reasons to love music.
As I'm listening to the CD while writing this review, I'm having a hard time leaving out any songs as "favorites" - nearly any commentary for the songs above applies to the rest of the CD. Rarely is there a CD that doesn't have me skipping at least one track, but these all get LOTS of play in my car, my house, and my iPod.
I hope there is more where this came from, Justin!
Fantastic CD - Impressed with the new blues sounds - very new and original
I caught the song "After Tonight" on Sirius' Coffee House station and it really caught my attention... so I downloaded the one song and listed a few more times, then I had to get the rest of the album with my fingers crossed it wasn't just another 1-hit-wonder... well the gamble paid off. this kids got real talent. it's very original, blues style, has a feel of Justin Timberlake's funky sound but more on an acoustic level. I was very impressed, criminal and be back soon are more great tracks. can't go wrong with this one.
Unexpected and overflowing talent
I bought this CD after one listen of "After Tonight" on Vh1. I think Justin Nozuka has great talent and soul, and he seems like an artist who will keep coming out with creative, original music that is wise beyond his years. Some of the songs, for example "Save Him", are raw and suspenseful, while others like "Golden Train" and "Be Back Soon" range from lighthearted pop to blues inspired. Every song gives you a different vibe, and I'm sure this album is only a taste of what this kid will do in the future.
