ablaze: radiant with light or emotion.
"Autumn's Grey Solace have rebuilt the shimmering craft of ethereal/shoegazer rock and have equipped it with their own essentials. Erin Welton's luminous vocals are untethered and airy, but her tenderness keeps her real, while Scott Ferrell's guitar envelops and cushions her in a fabric of smoothly shifting color and texture." - Gothic Beauty
The flame of inspiration continues to burn brightly on Ablaze, the fifth album (in six years) from ethereal shoegaze artists Autumn's Grey Solace. Ablaze contains eleven tracks of passionately created dreampop gems. Erin Welton's crystal clear vocal melodies soar into the heavens while Scott Ferrell's lush backdrop of guitars and other stringed instruments are richly orchestrated, with great attention paid to clarity and detail. The music is alive with blazing, echoing guitar chords, sun-kissed vocal harmonies, and a blistering rhythm section. Ablaze is a warm, glowing version of shoegaze, and celebrates the beauty and romanticism of the genre.
"Whereas other bands pile on the doom and gloom to an almost suffocating degree, Autumn's Grey Solace lets the music breathe. They possess a shimmering beauty that shines through the shadows. A fragile beauty, perhaps, but a beauty nonetheless." - Liar Society
"Scott Ferrell's gorgeous treated guitars, Welton's honey voice, and a Lush-ious late-night, glide through wintry evergreens ears -- like the later Cocteaus circa Heaven and Las Vegas or Milk & Kisses. Love it." - The Big Takeover

It's like a dream...
I don't even know where to begin with this album. After being disappointed with RIVERINE, Autumn's Grey Solace comes out with ABLAZE and I have not been able to stop listening ever since receiving my copy -- and that was about a month ago. Rarely do CDs stay in constant rotation for this long with me but I can't seem to get enough of these smooth, lushly textured shoegazer rock tunes. They're sometimes mellow, sometimes upbeat, but always ethereal and soothing. They even mix things up a bit with some metal-esque guitar riffs on "A Rhythm That Writhes" while maintaning their signature sound.
Unlike a lot of music in the shoegazer realm, the singing is distinct and not at all muffled sounding. The songs also happens to be gorgeous with multi-layered melodies and heavenly voices that harkens, respectively, to the Cocteau Twins. ABLAZE has definitely rekindled my interest in this group and I am more than willing to give their other albums a chance now.
BUY THIS ALBUM. It's one of 2008's best so far.
Standout tracks for me include "Into The Stream", "Immortal Muse", "Tusk", "Eternal Light", "A Rhythm That Writhes", and "Imaginary Grey". The album flows perfectly as one, though. I rarely find myself skipping songs EVER. It's like a dream you don't wish to end.
"In my heart I will stay forever young this way."
This music is so soothing and smooth; romantic and passionate. It's like riding a roller coaster of ups and downs all fun and exhiliarating. The tracks are so seamlessly weaved together and interconnected. This is an essential in great music but rarely achieved. Ah, but it is here. There's indeed A BLAZING fire and simultaneously, a mystery that runs deep and dark swirling in it's core radiating outward through the music that truly haunts me.
Ahhhh, it's just perfect--even better on repeated listeningz...Right now, it seems to rush straight to my heart saying, " Allow the Dream. Embrace it. Believe in it. Let it happen when it's supposed to...and until then; just BE fully present in every moment and BE joyful! Stay ABLAZE!" Music that goes straight to the heart--that's the kind I seek and when found, love eternal.
Try something different and buy this. It should surprise you pleasantly with it's deep beauty and true wisdom. Reminds me of a book I've been reading recently in which the author [Osho] said, "Some things are beyond the reach of the head, and when you are moving into those realms, you should put the head aside. You should be capable of that. That's flexibility. That is intelligence."
Keep Growing and always Soaring! ~o8E~
