Average customer review:Product Description
Nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima tells the untold story of the Japanese soldiers who defended their homeland against invading American forces during World War II. With little defense other than sheer will and the volcanic rock of Iwo Jima itself, the unprecedented tactics of General Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe, The Last Samurai) and his men transform what was predicted to be a swift defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic and resourceful combat. Their sacrifices, struggles, courage and compassion live on in the taut, gripping film Rolling Stone calls "unique and unforgettable." It is the powerful companion piece to Flags of Our Fathers.

WAR FROM THE OTHER SIDE
This is an excellent movie about the battle for Iwo Jima in world war 2. this though show exclusively through the eyes of the japanese. A well done movie showing the efforts of the japanese army trying to keep the island in japanese control and thuse a thin chance of winning the war. We see the culture of the time that brought japan to war and what kept them fighting even when the end was known. a very well acted film showing the other side of the battle. this along with the movie flags of our fathers gives a unique perspective on this historical fight. well done and very emotional.
Good Taste is a Rarity
I cannot understand why the best film of the decade has a two star rating on Amazon.com. Please get a basic understanding of what is and is not good film, then make your opinion known.
iwo from another angle
my hero, now a director, does it again! Showing the Japanese soldiers as human beings is a reminder of how inhuman their government was/is.
