Effectively doesn't work
Only usable for icon selection (press to select, and have to press hard). Rubber tip doesn't glide over surface. Can't draw with it either.

Haven't tried it w/o screen protector, but most people use screen protectors, so these pens should work with them.

Useless. . .

Absolutely ineffective and poorly constructed
This stylus was completely ineffective on my 3G iPhone. It did not work in the horizontal plane (swiping or sliding icons) nor did it function as as a push mechanism (for example text messaging.)

I experimented with hard and soft touch approaches- neither worked. I tried to scuff the tip of the stylus by rubbing it on a piece of paper (like an eraser)hoping the increased friction would allow my iPhone to recognize the input. That too did not work.

Finally, I removed the Otter Products Screen Protector I had wondering if it was interfering with the integration. There was no improvement in feedback even when using this pen directly on the iPhone screen.

My frustration peaked when I reattached my screen protector and trying different variations of touch, tap, and swipe, the rubber tip pulled out enough to expose my screen to the metal edge of the pen's shaft. This swipe permanently scraped my screen protector. The second (included) stylus demonstrated the same defects.

I do not understand how this product has worked for other members. I do not recommend this product and I do not feel it is worthy of being sold on Amazon.com given its substancial flaws.

Great Product for the money!
The pen stylus for the iphone/ipod touch is a very lightweight stylish pen. When you are using it you have to push a lot harder then you do with your fingers. I recommend this product to someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money.
