Customer Reviews
Stupid funny, but still the best way to cheer up yourself or someone else
I loave this movie. Yes it is stupid humour...the kind that you shake your head at...but it will make you laugh. I had a friend who was really depressed and I made her watch it and by the end she was laughing and feeling a little better. Granted, this is not for everyone as it has ADULT situations/drug use/alcohol use/foul language but if you watch it with a laid back/this is just a goofball movie attitude you might enjoy it.
Love the movie, not the extras
Super Troopers is a great movie and I would have purchased it on blu-ray regardless of any bonus features. However, I must say I am very disappointed with the game Stupor Troopers. The trivia pops up at random with white text on a bright yellow background, making it almost impossible to read. Also, selecting the answers to the pop up trivia is difficult, but I am using a PS3, not a traditional blu-ray player for what it's worth. Another issue I have is that if you choose to play the game and want to leave the movie, there is no way to jump back in where you left off. I was 45 minutes into the movie, and tried to come back to it later, but I could not resume where I left off, so the rest of the game was ruined for me.
Overall, the film looks great on blu-ray, from every mustache close up to syrup chug. Regardless of my problems with the bonus features, this is a most own for any fan of Broken Lizard and particularly Super Troopers.
Deadhouseplants' Review: Super Troopers
A cult classic is reissued into the Blu-Ray format. So the question here is, is it worth buying the Blu-Ray title, or holding onto your DVD copy.
Plot:
Shame on you if you haven't seen this movie already, seriously. This should probably go down as one of the funniest movies of the 2000's decade. There are comedic movies that completely and utterly define a factor of life. Bad News Bears did it for little league baseball. Office Space did it for midlevel corporate work. Super Troopers does it for anyone in law enforcement or has been pulled over or dealt with police. Think of Police Academy, sans the academy, but actually funny. A highway patrol station is facing shutdown due to budget cuts. This police force's antics or "shenanigans" doesn't help matters much. In essence, it's a string of really funny skits and jokes sewn together into a really funny movie. The most memorable skits are the college stoners, the meow game, and the classic syrup chugging.
Video:
1080p
1.85:1 Ratio
Keep in mind, this was an independent film, and comedies aren't meant to be visual stunning like Pan's Labyrinth.
Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1
The reference scene for the audio is the Mac car chase. The mixture of music and sound effects come off impressive through the five channels.
Extras:
This is where you're going to make your decision on this movie. This movie features the simple offerings of out takes, deleted scenes, and a boring featurette. However, the highlights of this disc are the three commentaries and the Stooper Troopers drinking game. First, there are two audio commentaries, each feature different members of the cast. The third commentary is a Mystery Science Theater 3000-esque commentary with all five members of Broken Lizard, including special guests. Then you have the Stooper Troopers, which by far adds another level of coolness to this title.
My Two-Cent
The one thing I hate about movies that were on DVD and then re-released onto Blu-Ray is the lack of effort in putting the Blu-Ray title together. It is very apparent these guys worked very hard on this, to make sure that the double-dipping was worth it.
Like most DVD or Blu-Ray purchases, I suggest rent before buy. However, this title is most definitely a keeper, and had the material for multiple viewings.
Verdict:
KEEPER
