Eric Benet has recaptured the essence of his roots as he journeyed back to Milwaukee on his fourth solo effort, Love & Life, a strong, good-feeling record reminiscent of yesteryears when R&B was rooted in gospel, a dash of jazz and the feeling of social awareness. This album reflects a journey that magnifies the abundance of familiar experiences both personal and social that transpires, represents sheer honesty, allowing you to discover truth, and be moved and connected by music.

Lackluster
Eric, Eric, Eric - you didn't hit a homerun with this one, dude. :-(
I bought this on the strength of Eric's musical reputation and the song You're The Only One, but this is not his best work. After I listen to The Hunger, You're The Only One, and Don't Let Go, I skip Everlove and listen to Chocolate Legs, Weekend Girl, skip Iminluvwichoo, and listen to Spanish Fly and eject. Hmmm, six out of twelve songs - that makes it halfway decent. It's still a good CD, but the songs are mostly forgettable. I don't think he'll ever do better than A Day In The Life.
I want my money back!
No i do like eric benet, so that's why i bought it without listening to it first. What a mistake. I have only listened to the cd once and i bought it about a month ago. I dont know if i will listen to again, the one song i do like the play on the radio.
Pleasant, but no angst to speak of............
This CD is pleasant, the artist has a good voice, the production is on point, and no doubt, in the current market it MAY do very well. But to these ears there is nothing on offer that sets it's a apart from the competition. And that the problem, as far as I'm concerned. Whilst there is nothing wrong with singing about love, there is if there's nothing on offer. The two stand out tracks are chocolate legs, and Spanish Fly. To get that angst into his next project, whilst I'm not one for celebrity gossip, he could for example, use the intrigue ref his ex-wife, to build a collection of songs dealing with hurt, betrayal, etc. Until Mr. Benet opens himself up, a la Marvin Gayle, and takes some risks, I fear that he'll just be lost in the abundance of so-called R&B artists that are on the scene nowadays.
