Customer Reviews

Happy as can be!5
Do not know why this later model is cheaper than the others. Got it, plugged in, downloaded latest firmware, and tested it out. CD @ 3 min, DVD @ 6min. Lightscribe took 19 min, I used a photo to see the quality. I got this to replace the one in the laptop which has slowed down. For less money than an internal you get a lot more speed. I burn media at home so it is of no issue that it is external.

Mac Didn't See It - At First2
After much internet research on DVD Writers for my MacBook, I picked the SE-S204N external unit. After it arrived I plugged it in and to my disappointment, my MacBook didn't recognize it. I went back to the Samsung website and looked for the USB driver to download. Samsung only has drivers for Windows. No Mac support! So now I'm doing the search for a third party app that will run on my MacBook and recognize the SE-S204N. I bought an Apple computer (1st time) to avoid the whole Windows PC installation nightmares. Looks like I should have stuck with a Windows laptop. At least SW support is readily available.

UPDATE: I found a download app that provided the lightscribe support for my MacBook. Now my MacBook can see this DVD Writer. iMovie and iDVD apps now see the SE-S204N external unit. I've played audio CDs and DVDs and its works great. Today I'll try burning some CDs and DVDs. More to follow...
