Album Description
Putumayo delivers the perfect package of soulful jazz and blues to liven up the holiday season. A Jazz & Blues Christmas offers a memorable array of classic holiday songs by jazz and blues legends and lesser-known artists. B.B. King opens the album with "Christmas Celebration," a rollicking, up-tempo tune cheerfully punctuated with bursts of brass from an energetic horn section. Ray Charles tells the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to a soulful beat. Ramsey Lewis plays "Here Comes Santa Claus," simulating the ring of sleigh bells on the upper registers of his keyboard. And, young Canadian chanteuse Emilie-Claire Barlow offers a new take on the old holiday favorite "Santa Baby."

With other exceptional tracks by rhythm and blues veteran Riff Ruffin, iconic blues crooner Charles Brown, jazz vocalist Topsy Chapman and the traditional New Orleans jazz band, The Dukes of Dixieland, A Jazz & Blues Christmas is sure to join Putumayo's other collections New Orleans Christmas and Christmas Around the World as Yuletide classics.

About the Artist
Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. The label grew out of Putumayo clothing company, founded by Dan Storper in 1975 and sold in 1997. Co-founder Michael Kraus joined Dan to launch Putumayo World Music and establish a non-traditional sales division. Putumayo World Music has become known primarily for its upbeat and melodic compilations of great international music characterized by the company's motto: "guaranteed to make you feel good!" Putumayo's CD covers feature the distinctive art of Nicola Heindl, whose colorful, folkloric style represents one of Putumayo's goals: to connect the traditional to the contemporary. By combining appealing music and visuals with creative retail marketing, Putumayo has developed a unique brand identity - a rarity in today's artist-based music industry.

Putamayo Fan4
I've been a big fan of Putamayo compilations for quite some time. I don't know if they coined the term "world music" but I think they've done a great job in popularizing the mega-genre. Whoever sifts through the music and makes the choices for each compilation does, on the whole, an excellent job of choosing selections that - as music critics like to say - are accessible to unsophisticated ears such as mine. BTW - if you aren't aware of the Putamayo music, check out Putamayo World Music online at: www.putumayo.com.

A unique Christmas CD!5
This CD offers a unique take on Christmas songs. Great to use during dinner parties.

Christmas Time Tunes Done Nicely5
A great selection. To our ears better than the New Orleans Christmas but both are great!
