Pretentious tripe.
Absolute waste of time and money. I am a child of the 60s and this is the biggest artsy-phartsy misrepresentation of an era and an artist I've ever seen. Enough said.
I'm Not Anywhere
I'm a Heath Ledger fan, I'll just say it. So that's the reason I picked this up.
I know nothing of Bob Dylan, and I'm always excited to learn about anyone new, especially in music. This movie didn't make me want to learn anything more about Bob Dylan or even listen to his music.
This film jumped all over the place. It didn't make much sense to a person who may not know anything about Dylan, like myself. It would have been much better if it just went in chronological order with something to explain what was going on. The movie just went from person to person, place to place without any warning. The last character, Richard Gere, was just extra and any scenes with him in it were just stupid. They really didn't make any sense.
The only thing I liked about the movie was that when they did the different characters the way the scenes were done were done in a really unique fashion from any of the others. I did feel that Cate Blanchett did really well in this film. She was definately the star of this whole thing.
As for the original rason I picked up this film, I really wish they would have used Heath more. This performance wasn't really the highlight of his career for me. It's among the bottom so far.
Only because of Heath Ledger
I only purchased this movie because Heath Ledger was in it. Not my favorite Heath movie. I am not a Bob Dylan fan and don't particuarly understand his music or his views but I gave it 3 stars because Heath was awesome in the role as he was in every movie he made, otherwise I probably would've given it 2 1/2. The movie was too confusing for me. But I would watch it again if only because of Heath. And I also think Cate Blanchet was great in the role. I was surprised to see she looked and acted the most like Dylan. I did however enjoy some of the songs in it. Especially Goin' to Acapulco.
