Eduardo Cemano is one of the bona fide pioneers of independent adult filmmaking, a cineaste who wasn t afraid to allow the sex act to blossom at the center of his creative efforts, a free spirit who truly believed that sex and artistic liberty were deeply and intimately connected. Although his productions are limited to a handful of modestly budgeted shorts and features, they represent some of the most adventurous experimentation the early above-ground grindhouse cinema had to offer, an anarchic, at times almost childlike vibrancy mixed with an indelible desire to show sex in all its sticky, sexy, voluptuous goodness.

MILLIE'S HOMECOMING (1971)

The story of Millie s Homecoming concerns a day in the life of Lord and Lady Zazu as they await the return of their daughter Millie from college. Lady Zazu is stressed out as per usual and appeals to her maid Hazel to soothe her jangled nerves. Upon Millie s return home, her besotted father, Lord Zazu staggers into Millie s bedroom, where mistaking Millie s raised buttocks for his wife s accidentally makes it with his own daughter. Once recovered from the initial shock of their incestuous encounter, Lord and daughter realize that they actually enjoyed the experience and run off to tell the rest of the family! Wacky 70s indie grindhouse at its best!

WEIRDOS AND THE ODDBALLS (1971)

Zora and her husband Sasha are a pair of middle-aged deviates looking for new kicks. They place an ad in the Village Voice claiming to be couples therapists and wait for the arrival of their first clients. David and his girlfriend Florence are ushered into Zora s lair, where she raves wildly about her ability to cure David s premature ejaculation!

Classic grindhouse
This is a collection of classic grindhouse cinema. Strange, thin plots portrayed by actors with an over-dramatic flair. The video quality is good; wide-screen restorations that are, considering the age of the film, surprisingly clean. The audio track is actually very clean. The restorers obviously expended some effort in smoothing out the bumps and hisses that so often accompany old film, especially when it's not in mainstream distribution.

"Millie's Homecoming" is the story of Lord and Lady Zazu, two neurotic aristocrats (living in a small apartment in Manhattan). The story is an excuse for the actors to ham it up horribly, playing up the adultery for a few scenes until it forgets it. The taboo nature of Lord Zazu's encounter with his daughter is almost lost in the surreal play-acting.

"Weirdos and the Oddballs" is a funny reflection on the cynicism about unlicensed therapy and sex therapists in particular. The plot is a thinly-veiled excuse for the characters to frolic together. It's hilariously telling when halfway through the picture Zora, the supposed therapist, asks a couple to remind her why they were there.

In addition to the two features, there are interviews with the director and several of the actors, as well as quite a few short loops of the actors involved with both features.

It would be unfair to judge these films by modern cinematic values (they haven't aged particularly well). As a time capsule of 1970s grindhouse, experimental film, and blue movies, this is a very good look.
