Album Description
Looking back, why did it take ten years to finally lure Waylon Jennings to the Austin City Limits stage for his first performance? Like everything else about the man, he did things his own way: when he was good and ready. Maybe it had something to do with that other Texas singer, that Red-Headed Stranger who shook things up in Austin and country music in general. Waylon wasn’t sure what the fuss was all about (as he sang, “It don’t matter who’s in Austin, Bob Wills is STILL the King!”). This special package contains both a CD and DVD of Waylon Jennings' first Austin City Limit’s performance, recorded in August 1984.

Customer Reviews

Great Waylon CD/DVD set!5
I've been a big Waylon Jennings fan for most of my life, and I was excited to see that this show was being released on CD and DVD. The set doesn't disappoint. It was recorded after Waylon had gotten his life straightened out, and it shows in his singing, picking, and personality.

The concert moves at a pretty quick pace, with Waylon only stopping to talk a few times in between songs, which is nice. The song selection is great, with a good balance of up-tempo songs and ballads.

Just as a fair warning to those looking for a hi-def experience - this show was recorded for television in 1984. It is in standard definition, and if you've ever seen an episode of "Austin City Limits," you'll have a pretty good idea of what the stage, setting, and lighting will look like. It doesn't look like it has been remastered. That said, it is still absolutely worth it to see and hear a clean and sober Waylon play a wonderful set at this stage in his life and career.

Also, to clarify, this set DOES come with both a DVD and a separate audio CD of the concert performance. It IS indeed a two-disc set. I bought mine here on Amazon (pre-ordered before it was released), and I received the set that includes both discs.

Very Nice5

Just what the hubby wanted! Arrived on time and in orig packaging.
DVD is really nice! Shows a personable side of Waylon.

Disappointed and cheated1
I love waylon and I buy anything from him that comes out, but I feel disappointed and cheated because the cd was not included in my purchase. AMAZON should be sure of what they sell before posting a description saying that includes a cd and a dvd
