A small town is scarred only by sherriff Tod Shaw's unsuccessful courtship of Ellen Beuson, a pacitist who can't abide guns and those who use them. But violence descends on Ellen's household willy-nilly when the U.S. President passes through the town... and slightly psycho hired assassin John Baron finds the Benson home ideal for an ambush.

Editorial Reviews
Review
This tense, relatively well-crafted little thriller dispenses with frills or padding, and tells its story in a straightforward way that works pretty well. Once it sets up the story, it maintains the tension carefully enough to make up for some plot holes and one-dimensional characters. The focus remains almost entirely on the story, and the characters are never developed very deeply. The three main roles are rather well-cast, though, and Frank Sinatra, Sterling Hayden, and James Gleason each deliver what their roles call for. Although implausible at some points, the story is otherwise well-constructed, and it moves at a good pace. Many film-makers are tempted to inject superfluous material into this kind of story, and this is an example showing that it usually works better to keep it simple. While nothing extraordinary, it works more than well enough to be worth watching. --Imdb
Review
Frank Sinatra stars as a jittery presidential assassin in this unpretentious B-movie which features fine work by Sterling Hayden and James Gleason. The lesser known of the two films involving the singer which were withdrawn from distribution after the death of JFK -- the other is the brilliant The Manchurian Candidate -- it also deals with an attempted presidential assassination, while offering a more conventional portrait of cold-war hysteria and '50s conformity. Particularly in its suggestion that Nancy Gates' war widow character is a helpless creature badly in need of protection from the local cop, it's very much of its time. While its confinement to one set and workmanlike direction give the project the feel of a photographed play, the principal characters are fleshed-out well enough to be compelling for the brief running time of the film. Sinatra is excellent as the paranoid, embittered WWII vet who leads the team of hired assassins, Gleason has one of his best parts as a wily retiree who understands how to exploit the chinks in the killer's psyche, and Hayden is solid in a lesser role. ~ Michael Costello, All Movie Guide --Answers.com
About the Actor
Growing up on the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey, made Frank Sinatra determined to work hard to get ahead. Starting out as a saloon singer in musty little dives (he carried his own P.A. system), he eventually got work as a band singer, first with The Hoboken Four then with Harry James, then Tommy Dorsey. With the help of George Evans (Sinatra's genius press agent), his image was shaped into that of a street thug and punk who was saved by his first wife, Nancy.

not new!
I bought this as "new & remastered" as advertised and this DVD actualluy arrived unwrapped and in an obviously used dvd container. The lable on the cover and dvd are self printed, looks like a home job. Not what i expected when i was promised something "new" and "digitaly remastered". Kind of embarrasing to give as a gift like I had intended. it looks home-made, is not wrapped in plastic and sealed. And despite the other reviews I'm seeing mine would not play in my new dvd player. The picture was fuzzy & largely pixilated. If you plan to purchase this I hope you have better luck than I did!
Great Quality
I love this movie and I love Frank Sinatra. I haven't seen this movie in ages and I brought back good memories. A2ZCDs did a great job remastering this and would recommend to all Sinatra fans.
Good old Sinatra
All I got to say is any thing with Frank Sinatra in it has to be a hit. The movie is a little dull in the beginning but once Sinatra shows up it becomes very exciting until the very end. Sinatra plays a hit man that takes place in a small California town called Suddenly. I don't want to give too much away so your going to have to find out for yourself what happens. This is a great movie that you wont be disappointed in.
