28 more high quality popular songs from the Golden Age Of Popular Music 1956-1965, many transferred from first generation master tapes. Several are making their first CD appearance and in stereo for the very first time.
Tracks of particular note among the wide-ranging selection include Go Away Little Girl by Steve Lawrence, a track that defines 60s pop. This #1 hit has only been available via mail order, but appears here for its first major CD appearance. Pop music mainstay Bobby Vinton scored many hits during the 60s, but I Love You The Way You Are on Diamond Records has never been issued on legit CD and appears here transferred from the original UK tape. Bob Crewe, most noted for his work for the 4 Seasons, charted as an artist in 1960 with The Whiffenpoof Song. Here is its first outing on CD in a new stereo mix from the original Warwick multi-track analogue tape.
Other appetizing musical morsels include Apple Green by June Valli, Beach Time by Roger Smith, Shake Me, I Rattle by Marion Worth and Wishin On A Rainbow by Phill Wilson, all first time CD exclusives on this compilation. Aces eclectic selection includes many other cherished hits including 18 Yellow Roses by Bobby Darin, Ginny Come Lately by Brian Hyland, My Summer Love by Ruby & The Romantics, Come Back Silly Girl by The Lettermen and Paradise by Sammy Turner.
As always, we have tried to find the best sounding sources on all of these all mastered impeccably to offer second-to-none sound quality.

Another outstanding title in Ace's Golden Age series
Ace Records of the U.K. follows up its top-notch "Golden Age of American Popular Music" in sensational style. As in the first volume, the tunes here represent the pop side of the hot-100 chart during the early age of rock and roll. While many of these "pop" songs were teen-oriented with songs from the likes of Kathy Linden, the Dixiebelles and Ruby and the Romantics, new and veteran pop singers of the era were still finding success with the music-buying public. Betty Johnson's "I Dreamed", June Valli's "Apple Green" and "Lovely One" from the Four Voices competed successfully with the new world of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis rock music. Most satisfying here is that, after decades of mining the vaults of top-100 American pop music, Ace Records still finds new treasures in the form of new-to-CD songs from the pre-invasion era. Tommy Mara's "Where the Blue of the Night", Roger Smith's "Beach Time" and Phill Wilson's "Wishin' on a Rainbow" join Bob Crewe's "Whiffenpoof Song" in the parade of new-to-legit-CD tunes. Other rarities such as "Shake Me I Rattle" from Marion Worth, "A Very Special Love" by Johnny Nash and Bobby Vinton's Diamond-label recording of "I Love You The Way You Are" join a sprinkling of more familiar tunes represented by Nino Tempo and April Stevens' "Deep Purple" and Gene McDaniels' "Chip Chip".
While the repertoire itself is outstanding, Ace's commitment to sound quality is no second thought here with the appearance of several first-time stereo tracks. Of the 28 tracks, 14 (1,4,6,10,13,16-20,24-26,28) are in stereo with the remainder in clean mono. Rounding out the package is a lavishly illustrated 20-page liner notes booklet with background on each of the included songs. Ace continues to delight both the casual fan and avid collector of the hot and not-so-hot popular music from the golden age of American rock and roll. While many labels have thrown in the towel when it comes to music of the genre (or disappeared altogether), Ace continues, thankfully, to raise the bar on the reissue market.
MORE GREAT 50S/60S MEMORIES!
This Cd once again proves that the 'pop' charts were filled with all kinds of great music. It seems that today's music historians would have us believe that the only thing that existed in the second half of the 50s and 60s was rock n roll but those of us who lived it and worked radio at the time know differently. Many of these songs have not seen the light of day since their original 45 release. Thanks again to the great people at ACE UK.
By the way, I have enough great favorites for volume 3! One of Patti Page's best of the 60s YOU'LL ANWER TO ME has never been on CD. Here are a few other greats to add to it: Patti's SAY WONDERFUL THINGS, Jack Jones' FIRST NIGHT OF THE FULL MOON, WONDERLAND BY NIGHT in both vocal hit by Anita Bryant and forgotten trumpet hit by Louis Prima, SAD MOVIES by the Lennon Sisters, THE WEDDING by June Valli, HAPPY JOSE by Jack Ross, YELLOW BIRD (the first hit recording of this tune) by the MIlls Brothers, RIDERS IN THE SKY by Lawrence Welk, CHAPEL BY THE SEA by Billy Vaughn, WORLD I USED TO KNOW by Jimmie Rodgers, CALCUTTA by the Four Preps and DON'T MAKE MY BABY BLUE by Frankie Laine
Yes, they'd all make a great volume 3.....just have to add a few others.
Great Music
Just love this album and the previous one. It is music prior to the British Invasion. It seems after the British arrived rock n roll just was not the same anymore. It is ironic that the British are putting out this series and not the US companies that created the music. What is with that? Great to hear the old music from the late 50's early 60's. Keep up the good work Ace records.
