Reflection of Spring
Laura Pausini made a name for herself in the 1990s singing synthesizer-driven ballads. In 2004, she added an edgier, more rock sound to her music. With the release of 2008's "Primavera in Anticipo", Pausini has once again evolved, this time adding lighter piano sounds into the mix. Like its title, it truly is a reflection of spring.
Many of the songs on this record are similar to 2006's 'Spaccacuore', light verses with a driving chorus. Lead single 'Invece No' features a delicate piano melody powered by Pausini's strong voice, while 'Bellissimo Cosi' has a somewhat darker feel. Title track 'Primavera in Anticipo', featured twice, as an all-Italian song by Pausini and as a duet with English lyrics by James Blunt, has a catchy guitar riff and melody that will have you humming along.
The only complaint I have about this album is similar to that of another reviewer: some of the songs truly do sound a lot alike. While this weaves the album into a cohesive whole, it can be a bit difficult to tell some of the tracks apart, especially if you, like me, don't speak Italian.
Overall, "Primavera in Anticipo" lives up to what Pausini's fans had anticipated it would be. Like her other albums, it's a masterpiece that anyone - Italian or not - can enjoy.
Can't compare to her earlier work
First let me explain that I absolutely love Laura's earlier albums. Songs like Gente, Non c'e, Le cose che vivi, Strani amori, and my favorite Due innamorati come noi are some of the most beautiful songs ever performed. This album didn't live up to my expectations.
There is one absolute gem buried in here. Bellissimo così is one of Laura's best songs ever. Catchy, vibrant, and almost alive in its passion. It stands out as something completely different that harkens back to Laura's roots.
The solo version of Privavera in anticipo is also a good song with a rhythm that closely matches the pace of the lyrics. The duet with James Blunt doesn't work so well. Maybe if he sang in Italian or she sang in English it would be better, but the combiation of two languages breaks the song into distinct sections rather than a cohesive whole.
I'm torn on how I feel about Invece no. It is an extremely passionate song that allows Laura to show her vocal range. It is also well orchestrated with a string section backing the chorus that enhances the song. It sounds sad and yearning, which is how it is intended to be; however, just for that reason I don't find myself listening to it much.
Unfortunately, forgettable is how I would describe most of the other songs. Almost every song on this album suffers from a very heavy acoustical guitar base that doesn't complement her voice or the lyrics. It is almost as if the guitarist is competing with Laura for dominance of the song.
If you like Laura's earlier work, I recommend listening to all the samples before purchasing this entire album. I pre-ordered this before its relase, but I would have just purchased Bellissimo così and Primavera in anticipo as singles if I had known what the rest of the songs were like.
Altro disco magnifico di Laura, una donna bella e con talento!!!
This is a must have for any Laura fan. It is one of the most beautifully written and magnificent albums to date from Laura. Her voice shines as usual through the entire album. The first single of the album, "Invece No", is very touching and you can feel Laura pouring her soul into every word and musical note. I have to say that my favorite song of the entire album is "Un Fatto Ovvio". This song touches very close to my heart and just makes me shiver hearing her powerful voice gracefully leading and almost directing every instrument. As I said in the title of my review "Another magnificent album from Laura, a beautiful and talented woman".
