The Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Series Collector's Edition begins where it should, with the final games in the Phillies' pre-World Series, post-season contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's exciting to revisit the Phillies' comeback in the eighth inning of game four, when they were down 5 to 3 but rallied on home runs by Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs. Watching winning pitcher Cole Hamels shut down the Dodgers in game five demonstrates why he was named series MVP. Moving on to the Phillies' domination over the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, this box set neatly packages each game on its own disc in a plastic case covered in vital information: player statistics, the temperature during the game, stadium attendance, etc. Additionally, each disc includes the option to listen to alternative broadcasts of a game, one from the Phillies Radio Network, the other from the Rays' equivalent.

All of the series' highlights are here, including the seven innings that Hamels pitched in game one, allowing only two runs. Game two is still painful to watch, even in retrospect, for Phillies' fans, as the Rays tie the series with the help of starting pitcher James Shields, who gives up no runs in five-and-a-half innings. As everyone knows, the Phillies sweep the next three games, struggling for a win in game three as the teams duke it out on offense. The drama of the 2008 World Series, of course, came with game five, when the Phillies and the Rays faced the same opponent: Philadelphia rain. It's great fun viewing again the protracted question of what to do with a field that was becoming laughable in its muddy, watery condition. The decision to suspend the contest at the bottom of the sixth inning still conveys its historic impact, i.e., the fact that no World Series game had ever been called off while in session. Add to that the excitement, two days later, of picking up where everything left off, both teams playing those final innings with great energy and competition, and you can't beat this box set. A special, bonus DVD includes a number of highlights from the entire series. --Tom Keogh

28 Years in Waiting!!! Make Phillies All-Time Top Selling DVD5
The holidays will be a little brighter as I watch the Phillies win the World Series again & again. Watching this over again reminded me of the how dominant this Phillies team was. (10-3 in playoffs) I'll admit my doubt that Brad Lidge would stay perfect the entire season & postseason!! Being able to hear Harry Kalas & the local Philly guys is by far the best feature of this DVD collection. Yes, MLB does get a little carried away with it's logo.

While I know that the MLB wanted a Dodgers-Red Sox series, show them the incredible fan base we have in Philadelphia and make this the best-selling baseball DVD collection of all-time. Philadelphia really needed this World Championship.

Phillies fans can relive:
* Cole Hamel's incredible pitching and Jimmy Rollins consistent defense
* Joe Blanton's HR and Ryan Howard's 2 HR game
* McCarver & Buck reminding us how the Phillies we're 0-99 with RISP.
* The only postseason game ever stopped & started up a few days later
* Chase Utley's fake throw
* The contributions by everybody who had a Phillies uniform on !!!
* Listen to Kalas, Wheeler, McCarthy, LA, and Sarge! (instead of FOX)

This is a tremendous collection for a true Phillies fan! 8 wonderful DVDs!!

World Champions! (sorry Chase, had to keep it clean for the kids)

Great set, one annoyance4
This is a great dvd set for any Phillies fan. But as mentioned previously, you really have to wonder what genius decided to place the MLB watermark in the upper right of the frame. Though it's small, it gets distracting. A simple lower opacity watermark in the lower 3rd would have sufficed. We get it, we're watching an MLB product. A glaring negative on an otherwise great product.

Reliving every moment of a new era in Phillies' history5
The DVD format has done wonders for sports fans. Prior to DVD, the best you'd find were VHS cassettes of NFL Films blooper reels. With this set, I can relive every moment of NLCS Game 4 and 5, and every game of the World Series in widescreen format.

The packaging design is fantastic, with stats and facts on each DVD case. This is a really nice set to cherish for sports fans that were starved for a championship team.

It's the gift I've been waiting for since Joe Carter hit the home run that won the Toronto Blue Jays the 1993 World Series championship over the Phils.
