Props to Thrive for a bunch of hard-to-find mixes
With this one disc set, Thrive manages to cram on long versions of quite a few remixes that are not available on CD elsewhere, including over 6 minutes of Pink, 7 minutes of Katy Perry, and over 6 minutes of Natasha Bedingfield. Personally, I think thrive should have skipped to album versions of several hip hop tracks in the middle and given us longer lengths of Jordin Sparks (the import CD single only had the radio edit of nevins mix), David Archuleta, Estelle, and Coldplay! Especially considering this new tactic of slapping some hip hop hits in the middle of these dance collections brings the dance to a crashing halt. It just doesn't work. Either make a hip hop dance party collection or a club dance party collection.
As for the mixes, the Britney is good, but available in its full length on her CD single, Pink mix is awesome, Chris Brown mix is excellent and close to the original mix (which is a good thing). Katy Perry, same thing. Close to the original mix, which is a good thing. Jason Nevins sticks pretty close to the original version of Jordin Sparks, but it's a little harder and doesn't quite hold the upbeat attitude of the original. Even the mixing talents of Jason Nevins can't do much to make David Archuleta's hit a good dance song--the vocals plod along and drag down the beat. Natasha Bedingfield's track is a lot of fun, typical upbeat, disco house flavored mix by Moto Blanco--followed by another Blanco mix, which is actually a cover version of the Brownstone track "If You Love Me". Cascada--you either like her or you don't, but this mix of Perfect Day is fantastic, giving a bit more of an edge to the usual Euro trance sound expected of this artist. The Estelle track can't compare to her big hit American Boy. Personally, I prefer the Quentin Harris mix of Jennifer Hudson on her CD single as opposed to the Johnny Vicious mix included here, although it's still good. And as for the last track, Coldplay--Stuart Price didn't do much with this track beyond throwing a beat behind the original mix. Not a very inspired remix--although it gets much better, well, right near the end, about the last minute or so.
Finally, anyone else shocked that they dared to include a Chris Brown track on here at this point in time? And notice--there's no Rihanna track on this volume of the series!!!
