Best Entertainment Mag to keep you "in the know"4
After the demise of my much beloved "Premier" magazine, I sought out a replacement with grim hope. There just aren't many choices in quality entertainment/film mags out there for someone wanting to keep up with the film/media world and that doesn't reside in LA/Hollywood. I settled on EW but didn't have high hopes or expectations that it would ever be able to duplicate the thrill I got when receiving the new issue in the mail like Premier did. 2 years later, I am a convert! Sure, it's not the glossy, high quality production of its predecessor but I've grown to overlook that because of the great content it provides me with each and every week. I know what's coming not only in film, but on TV and even in the literary world! Great reviews on everything from music to books to cable really filled the void Premier left behind. The witty writing and sometimes snarky commentary is right up my alley. To discover that Stephen King is one of their rotating writers, along with the amazing Diablo Cody is worth the price of subscription alone! This is one magazine that gets read & re-read, cover to cover, and referred back to till it's almost in tatters. Without it, I'd be aimlessly adrift among the mind-boggling sea of entertaiment options. If you're looking for a magazine that's not only about today's media/entertainment industry but is also entertaining, I highly recommend EW!

I just wish they wouldn't mix politics with entertainment!2
I used to love this magazine. I subscribed for years in the 1990's, and it was well written and fun to read every week. I let my subscription lapse because the magazine became more and more infused with one-sided political commentary. Check out this month's cover above. They have an article about Sarah Palin: "We read her book so you don't have to." Does anyone think that article will be positive toward Sarah Palin? Why do they feel the need to do this? Its supposed to be about entertainment, NOT politics. Oh, and they love Michael Moore. He is lionized and his motives and beliefs are always lauded by the authors. Listen, I just don't want the author's political beliefs included with my movie reviews! I'm sure they have alienated half of their subscribers, which is why they are offering it for only ten dollars. You may like their point of view. I just want to warn people before they subscribe so they can make an informed decision. I wish there was a magazine out there with just entertainment news and reviews, free from the political garbage! If anyone can suggest one, leave it in the comments, I'd appreciate it.

Love this magazine! Always gets a good laugh5
EW is a breath of fresh air when it comes to entertainment magazines. It has a witty intelligent humor and it does not ever mention gossip of the moment like people, us weekly, etc. If you enjoy reading articles on upcoming movies, tv shows, music, and books (especially those that are not mass marketed on tv), this mag is for you! They often offer articles of what is trendy at the moment, but it is the non-obvious trendy items you wouldn't expect. This week included the new show "Michael and Michael" on Comedy Central and new book "This is Where I Leave You". I actually read it cover to cover each week. It is a very nice present to receive each week (and at an AMAZING price!!)
