Grammy(r) nominated 2008 - Best Cajun Album
Homage Au Passé, the Pine Leaf Boys third album, is the five-man group s first release on Lionsgate. These youthful southwest-Louisianans celebrate their Cajun heritage with a rollicking and often rowdy collection of soulful original songs and traditional classics. Like all Cajun bands, the Pine Leaf Boys play music that s intended primarily for dancing just try to sit still when you hear them. But as the title Homage Au Passé (Homage to the Past) indicates, this infectiously fun and passionate band is also on a serious mission of cultural preservation.
The Pine Leaf Boys are the real deal sincere cultural crusaders who love their land and who live its venerable music with genuine gusto. There s no studied revivalism here on their Lionsgate debut, Homage au Passé; au contraire, this album stomps, sweats, loves and loses, and raises no small amount of hell in the process. In an age of rampant homogenization, when vital regional cultures are eroding just like Louisiana s endangered wetlands, Homage au Passé proves that the steamroller of bland conformity will never flatten all in its path.

Customer Reviews
Great CD
This is an excellent album from a group of young musicians around the Acadiana (Lafayette) area. There are several originals as well as some classic cajun tunes done in very good taste. The sound quality and mixing are right on que. Their version of Parlez Nous a Boire is probably the best that I've ever heard recorded. Catin, Catin is inspiring. It's obvious that these guys love what they do and want you to love it, too.
The previous albums were raw, crazy, and unscripted where this one has just a hint of reserve to it. Is it maybe the Pine Leaf Boys are maturing musically. They seem to certainly be masters of their instruments already.
Buy the album. If you like cajun music, you won't be disappointed.
A joyous Cajun dance party on CD
This young Lafayette, Louisiana quintet moves to the Lionsgate label for their third album, and packs along all the accordion- and fiddle-based flavors of their earlier releases. Though they play traditional Cajun music, in both covers and original compositions, they play with a joy that feeds off their youthful sense of glee. Where many Cajun records sound like studio-polished versions of an act's live show, the Pine Leaf Boys bring the swing and the foibles of the stage into the studio. The result is a disc that captures the verve of a band playing for dancers rather than for microphones. Their vocals offer a rawness that holds on to the music's front porch seed; their rhythms roll and sway as if propelled by bodies swirling at a fais do-do. There are two-steps and waltzes, and the upbeat original "J'Suis Gone Pour Me Saouler" salutes New Orleans' influence on the birth of rock `n' roll. As much as they revere past legends of Cajun music, the Pine Leaf Boys bring their own round of refreshments to the party. [©2009 hyperbolium dot com]
