Customer Reviews
Be wary of Rebit
I purchased the 3 PC version of Rebit in April 2009 after searching for an Apple Time-Machine like solution for my PC. As advertised, Rebit is easy to setup and get running. However, make sure you check the Rebit backup to ensure it is backing up all your files.
In my case, I found that Rebit did NOT backup my Outlook PST files. This is a big deal to me as most of my important data is actually stored in my e-mail.
I made 4 attempts to contact Rebit support before getting a response. Once I did get in touch with someone, they were courteous but not able to resolve my problem. Finally, I was told that the Rebit developers would have to get involved to trouble-shoot and resolve this issue. As of writing this review, an resolution has not been developed.
I can not recommend Rebit to anyone because of this issue.
Easy and simple.
The software is very easy to use and extremely simple. If you want backup software that is hassle-free, get Rebit. It runs in the background without any signs of slowing down your computer. So far well worth the twenty eight dollars.
Affordable
Rebit seems to be good by backing up everything instantaneously, and the files are viewable and easy to confirm.
I had other back up software that had proved to be useless when my computer crashed. I have not used to Rebit to recover files so far -no crash yet, so I cannot vow on its recovery performance. Dislikes: You cannot delete any backed up file, and even though you delete it in your hard drive, it stays on Rebit - just in case you change your mind, as the company claims. The company claims that when your hard drive is filled, the Rebit will start deleting old files to make room for new ones. Do you want an old Real Estate Tax Copy to be deleted by Rebit - because scrap files you don't want keep it bloated? Certainly not. The Rebit, therefore, needs BADLY a software update to patch in a DELETE function. Until then, the only option is to a) Make sure all the files you need are in your computer's
hard drive, while they are also in Rebit along with all the DELETED junk. b) If you use an external hard drive -like I do (a 500GB Samsung External HD), then format the external HD that Rebit controls to clean all the gunk out. Then restart your computer, and Rebit will again make full copy of your PC's hardware and applications, plus a full copy of you files that are in your HD, and you want to retain. That is the only way to control what is stored at Rebit and what is not.
As for the Question: Should you buy? Yes. The virtue of Rebit is that it doesn't bug you with pop ups continuously to BUY an upgrade for more money. And if the company upgrade Rebit with a DELETE function, it will probably be the top back up software.
