A terrific update to an amazing series!
The image is very sharp for a standard DVD - maybe too much, as there is some twitter in a few of the shots; nothing more than you would see in satellite or cable resulting from video compression. Compared to the previous DVD's in the series that were clearly shot in standard definition, this is sharper and a significant improvement. You can really see the grains of sand on the beaches.

I have both a 65" Panasonic Onyx plasma, and a newer 52" Samsung Red LCD panel. Initially the video quality looked better on the Panasonic, however, I realized later that the Samsung had the Vivid setting turned on, which oversaturated the colors by darkening the image and overexposing the highlights. I would recommend using Standard setting and just adjusting the brightness as needed. I also noticed that HDMI or Component make huge difference in upscaling the DVD to properly fit HDTV's. Siginificantly reduced the artifacts and noise. With that said it plays back super on a computer also.

The new and improved holographic 5.1 surround sound is awesome. The crashing waves seem to literally come down the beach from behind you like an airplane flying by.

The DVD has 4 parts, about 22 minutes for each island, ending in a beautiful sunset. If you hit the DVD menu, you can get to the Bonus Music Video. The whole DVD has been re-cut, with each shot now running 20 seconds rather than 2 minutes, and you can pick from 6 different sound tracks depending on your mood; all without loosing the nature sounds...they are mixed in. Traditional Hawaiian Guitar and Tiki Bar Lounge are great for tropical parties (goes great with a few Pina Coladas). Piano Memories and Nightclub Jazz are also beautiful and melodic. Overall the music adds a new dimension to an already original, ambient and more relaxing nature sounding waves.

I give the updaed version 5 stars for sure. Looks awesome! It will definitely be in the background for my next BBQ, or while just chilling out on the couch with a tropical drink with friends.

I Can't Wait for Winter!
I love my Hawaii Beaches DVD. I live in Buffalo NY, and winter can be hard. But with Beaches, winter just got a little bit warmer. I play this dvd *a lot*, just as background in my home. Instead of looking outside at the gray bleak, I can gaze at soothing waves, and glorious sunsets.

Hawaii Beaches is multi-purpose. Besides just making me happy because it's pretty, I use Beaches as an exercise DVD with my rowing machine and treadmill. Pop in the DVD, and I am rowing my kayak, or jogging on the beach at sunset. Awesome.

And it's an instant Beach Party! With the different soundtracks to choose from, I have a tiki lounge in my living room, and the margaritas are pouring. My friends love it--gorgeous images, shot beautifully, wide-screen, no camera jiggle. And no people in the shots! It's like you're on your own private beach. This DVD takes you away from the ordinary, and puts you in a place of bliss. Love it.

Highly recommended for relaxation and escape.
