Album Description
This stunning live recording captures legendary guitarist Robben Ford at his very best, perfectly displaying his unique style; one that combines, yet transcends, his roots in jazz, fusion, blues, soul and rock, distilling the past into the moment, and always with an eye on the future. "I wanted to capture that experience of playing live. "I find it has a lot more impact than a studio recording. Music is a living, breathing thing. Real art is timeless. It doesn't have a beginning and an end. It's all about the present moment," Ford says. Soul on Ten was Recorded Live at The Independent in San Francisco,CA throughout the month of April 2009.
The album includes Robben Ford's classics, as well as three brand new Robben Ford compositions.
Customer Reviews
Not Thrilled
I'm a big fan of Robben Ford, but didn't find anything on this CD that made me say "wow." Actually, considering all his other albums, the thought crept into my mind that this one is a bit boring. Nothing you haven't already heard in his playing before - no new ground. Just good, typical Robben Ford playing.
I'm a big fan, so I'd get it anyway. But if you're not, there's probably other CD's that are a better representation of his work.
Robben Ford is Awesome
I have been a very big fan of Robben Ford for many years and have had the pleasure of seeing him perform live many times. He never ceases to amaze me with his tastefullness and playing ability. He has been a great inspiration to me and I would highly recommend to anyone.
Soul On Ten kicks ass
Superb album - hard to believe it's live. Robben is in fine form on all fronts and his rhythm playing is especially good. Travis Carlton's bass playing is spectacular - he's now one of my favorite bassist and the drummer is top notch. Buying the CD new gets you three additional tunes to download from Robben's web site - I'm glad I got those as well. If you're a fan, this is a breath of fresh air. After a month or so the album is still close to the top of my playlist.
