	Yes I Am by Melissa Etheridge Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $0.01 The singer most often compared to Janis. Melissa sang at Joplin's induction to the Rock Hall Of Fame. Now for that Janis movie roll? C'mon Melissa or somebody!
	The Rose: The Original Soundtrack Recording Buy used from: $1.20 I'm not a big Bette Midler fan, except when she played "The Joplinesque" type character - "The Rose". A great movie and soundtrack. She saves one of her the best for last - "Stay With Me Baby".
	Monterey International Pop Festival [30th Anniversary Box Set] Buy used from: $64.99 The evening session has my other favorite version of "Ball And Chain". Janis blows away Monterey and James Gurley on guitar is wired. The box set is early rock essential.
	Live at Winterland '68 by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Co. Buy used from: $1.24 Big Brother's best live album. The group was happy to be home, which is evident on this energetic recording. The band hits full stride on "The Farewell Song" and "Light Is Faster Than Sound".
	Ball n' Chain by Big Mama Thornton Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $6.59 The original "Ball And Chain". Big Mama was a Blues belter second to none. She's backed on this one by Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Fred McDowell, Otis Spann, James Cotton and Walter Horton.
	Turn the Heat Up! by Shemekia Copeland Buy new: $17.98 / Used from: $3.49 This young lady seems to have taken the torch from Big Mama. Mature vocals, outstanding slow Blues and superb live performer.
	Janis by Janis Joplin Buy used from: $10.95 An excellent box set that includes all her famous songs plus key unreleased tracks like the "Typewriter Tapes" and Pearl's solo version of "Me And Bobby McGee". Nice booklet with historic photos.
	Relish by Joan Osborne Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $0.01 The next generation hippie rocker exploaded on the music scene with her smashing debut and nose ring on "One Of Us". Her change though to straight R. & B. Pop has had mixed results.
	Janis: The Way She Was [VHS] Buy used from: $14.70 A well done documentary. The Kozmic Blues Band does an interesting version of "Ball And Chain" using a horn section. The original album is strangely not on CD as of 2002.
	Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music by Various Artists Buy used from: $99.99 Janis sang better at Woodstock than given credit. The key song in the set is "Work Me Lord", which epitomizes the raw talent of Pearl in a live setting. The rest of this box is hit and miss.
	Live at the Lake by Blue by Nature Buy used from: $25.99 Karen Lawrence ( Lynda Carter look a-like ) of BBN is closest singer to Janis in present times. She's backed solidly by two lead guitars, which includes Rick Dufay of Arrowsmith. The recording sounds more studio, than live.
	In Concert by Janis Joplin Buy used from: $2.43 The first Joplin live album has some of her best performances recorded at different venues. Pearl has funny comments and stories between songs.
	Do What You Love by Big Brother & the Holding Company Buy new: $32.99 / Used from: $10.65 Lisa Battle strongly compliments the band in her own singing style and doesn't try to copy Janis. ( Same for KATHI MCDONALD & NICK GRAVENITES in early 70's BBHC CD's. )
	Big Brother And The Holding Company by Big Brother & The Holding Company Buy used from: $4.15 A Folk/Rock flavored selection of short, quick songs of the band in the baby stages. Janis starts to show off her vocal power - "Call On Me". No "Cheap Thrills", but definetly essential.
	I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again, Mama by Janis Joplin Buy used from: $3.05 A powerhouse set of songs geared more for fans of the Stax/Volt Sound. Janis and the horns do click, inspite of a few in the "Critic Section". Kozmic was led by super saxman " Snooky" Flowers.
	Pearl by Janis Joplin Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.35 Considered by some her very best regular album. This Country/Bluesy project had to be finished after her untimely death. "Pearl" was produced by "The Doors" Paul Rothchild.
	Read My Lips by Lou Ann Barton Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.39 Since Janis passing, Lou Ann is the heads and shoulders top of the class in female "Texas Roadhouse". She brings along the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Jimmy Vaughan for this butt kicking ride.
	What You Hear Is What You Get by Ike & Tina Turner Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $6.68 The non-commercial Tina at her peak. Great covers like "Proud Mary", sexy stuff - "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and rock & roll - "Honky Tonk Women".
	The Whole Enchilada Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $9.28 Teresa occasionally tours with Delbert McClinton. Her piano work has a Louisiana flavor blended with Joplin-Raitt spunky vocals. Her debut has wide variety of blues & "Rhythm Tramps" Horns.
	Big Brother and the Holding CO with Janis Joplin / Nine Hundred Nights Buy used from: $2.90 An informative DVD of the band in the early San Francisco era. The members of Big Brother reflect back on this time period with straight honest opinions of what really went on back then.
	The Complete Monterey Pop Festival - Criterion Collection Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $30.70 A remarkable improvement from the video. Way better picture quality and sound. Includes rare footage of Big Brother rocking out on "Combination Of The Two".
	Farewell Song by Janis Joplin Buy used from: $3.24 An outstanding set of songs from the vaults. Purists avoid though due to added music later from session players. Janis does her versions of "Hi Heel Sneakers" and "Tell Mama".
	Use What You Got by Janiva Magness Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $47.19 Janiva ( Jan-ah-vah ) doesn't rock, but definetly belts out the blues with a lot of firepower. She also can slow it down like the 1930's Bessie Smith. See her live, if you can.
	Live in San Francisco 1966 by Big Brother & Holding Company Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $7.58 One the earliest concerts known to exist of the band in the early San Francisco era, pre-Monterey. "The Chick Singer" was not embraced by all Big Brother fans in 1966.
	Introducing Joss Stone by Joss Stone Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.18 Joss Stone brings a twist to Soul in her own way. Janis influences carry on thru the 2000's.
	Janis Joplin:The Woodstock Experience (2 CD) by Janis Joplin Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.88 The horn section gives Janis a different sound like Lydia Pense & Cold Blood would do in the years to follow. "Piece Of My Heart" feels good!

	Stevie Nicks: Live at Red Rocks Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.96 A real life "Rose" performance as far as emotion not style and the Red Rocks setting = A DVD concert treasure done by Stevie Nicks in the 80'.
