1949. Stray Dog. One of the greatest Film Noirs in existence. Incredible pacing, edge of your seat suspense. Every scene is artfully shot paced and executed.

1950. Rashomon. One of his first epics. The first to receive international recognition.

1954. Seven Samurai. His masterpiece and the film he will probably always be remembered for. An incredible epic. Finally Criterion is re-releasing their greatest film in this lovely three disc edition.

1957. The Lower Depths. Adaptation of a Russian play. only available in this "Double Feature" with Renoir's version. It's interesting. Watching the two of them as a double feature is VERY INTERESTING. Renoir's is full of happieness and light while Kurosawa's has the strong sadness of the original play.

1960. The Bad Sleep Well. Another Noir. Do to its lack of success with its message, it prompted Kurosawa to "re-make it" as a samurai film the product of that experiment was Yojimbo.

1962. Sanjuro. The sequel to Yojimbo, yet it stands alone on its own right. It's much more light hearted than Yojimbo, and seems to paint Sanjuro as a bit of a bumbling fool. It's a great film with a lot of heart, a true classic.

1965. Red Beard. The story of a doctor and his apprentice. An amazing lesson in acting and characterization. Although the subject matter is definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

1975. Dersu Uzala.

1985. Ran. Kurosawa adapts King Lear to the Jidaigeki genre. A very dark and cynical movie that is very hard for me to watch, despite its beautiful color and cinematography.

1991. Rhapsody in August. A woman and her grandchildren.
