ELLA FITZGERALD: THE LEGENDARY FIRST LADY OF SONGELLA FITZGERALD: THE LEGENDARY FIRST LADY OF SONG
Buy used from: $12.99
Affectionately narrated by Nancy Wilson, this film is not as informative as Something to Live For, but has some great live clips, plus interview segments with such luminaries as Diz, Benny Carter, & Anita O'Day. It also dispels the legend (which I'd thought was true) that Lady Day disliked Ella. In fact, they were good friends. Ella even said that Lady Day was a better singer than she!
Jazz Icons: Ella Fitzgerald Live in '57 and '63Jazz Icons: Ella Fitzgerald Live in '57 and '63
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $11.95
Ella swings in Brussels backed by Jo Jones & the Oscar Peterson Trio (which included her ex-husband Ray Brown), and later in Sweden backed by Tommy Flanagan. An excellent opportunity to see Ella perform live at the peak of her powers.
