![]() | Slacker - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $31.49 / Used from: $22.90 Pretty much an essential film if you are into indie filmmaking. One hundred minutes of crackpots, crazies, philosphers and everything in between, talking. Not for everyone, but a good movie regardless
|
![]() | Dazed & Confused (Widescreen Flashback Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $3.93 His most prolific movie. If you have seen "American Grafiti", then you know what you're getting here, just add more pot. A funny movie, ecspeccially if you are a fan of teen movies. Or pot.

![]() | Before Sunrise
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $1.95 Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy meet on train, walk around, talk, and fall in love in one night. What could have been to stagey or dull becomes something euphoric and romantic and essentail viewing.
|
![]() | Suburbia [VHS]
Buy used from: $7.98 Linklater's most underrated film in my opinion. Based on play by Eric Bogonisian, a group of twentysomethings wander around and do nothing waiting for their rock star friend to return. Honest & smart.
|
![]() | Newton Boys (Spanish) [VHS]
Buy used from: $5.50 My least favorite Linklater thus far. A servicable western, but no one's heart seems to be in it, and it drags on fifteen minutes to long. Not bad if you see it on cable one day, but hardly brilliant.
|
![]() | Waking Life
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.51 I have conflicted feelings about this movie. It is unlike anything I've ever seen before, and is a movie unlike anything else. That said, I found chunks of it boring and too simiular to "Slacker".
|
![]() | Tape
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.48 Shot in real time of miniDV and taking place in one hotel room, "Tape" could have been a boring, but instead is strangely exciting and tense, maybe thinks to Ethan Hawke in one of his best roles.
|
![]() | School of Rock (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01 Probably a paycheck movie, but what a paycheck movie! This is what happens when you have a talented group of people set out to make a stereotypical Hollywood movie. It comes out amazingly.
|
![]() | Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
Buy used from: $1.14 Linklater does some voice work as the Bus Driver. Yep. What can I say, I enjoyed it.
|
![]() | Spy Kids
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $1.34 Linklater also appeared, briefly, in this family mega hit by pal Robert Rodriguez. Again, what can I say, this is a pretty cool movie.
|
![]() | Chelsea Walls
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $3.27 He once again makes a cameo in Ethan Hawke's directoral debut. Dirty, grungy, poorly lit and boring. My recomendation is to not waste your time.
|
![]() | Spike, Mike, Slackers, & Dykes: A Guided Tour Across a Decade of American Independent Cinema by John Pierson
Buy new: $12.70 / Used from: $0.01 The slacker in the title refers to Linklaters debut, and John Pierson tells the story of his involvement in over a decades worth of indie film. A great read if your interested in it.
|
![]() | Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film by Peter Biskind
Buy used from: $0.11 A book detailing the ninties indie boom that birthed Linklater, Tarentino, Kevin Smith and others. Although I don't believe every word in this book, it is still and entertaining and fun read.
