Probably as close to perfect as a performance of Tannhauser can get. Cassily is a powerful singer, and an even better actor. Troyanos is perfect as Venus, while Marton sings the part of Elizabeth with both beauty and power. Weikl rounds out the cast as an engaging Wolfram. The Met Orchestra is magnificent, and the sets are jaw-dropping.

Fascinating documentary on the making of Solti's famous Ring recording. Includes interviews with Solti and the singers, as well as clips of the artists as they record the revenge trio from Gotterdammerung.

Ingmar Bergman's incredible production of The Magic Flute (sung in Swedish) is the best visual representation of the opera on film. the singing and orchestral playing are pretty dinky, but the virtuosic directing, which perfectly captures the delightful spirit of the piece, more than makes up for it. If this movie doesn't put a smile on your face, you need to seriously re-examine your life.

A great Un Ballo from the Met with a super-duper cast, incredible sets, and fantastic orchestral playing. I must admit that Pavarotti looks preposterous when he's dressed as the fisherman, but he sure can sing!
