D'Aulaires' Book of Greek MythsD'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths by Ingri d'Aulaire
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $6.94
Probably my favorite mythology book of all time. Can't tell you how many times I read this from my 3rd grade library. I still remember that a page had a smudge mark from my finger. Terrific illustrations and storytelling.
D'Aulaires' Book of Norse MythsD'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths by Ingri D'Aulaire
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $14.74
My 2nd favorite mythology book as a child after the D'Aulaires' Greek Myths. In some ways, it's more fun as the Norse myths aren't as sparkly and clean as Greek myths. More coarse and dark, but still a terrific read as a child.
The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain)The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain) by Lloyd Alexander
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.25
The Chronicles of Prydain are also a fun read for elementary. Just enough cuteness and fantasy to make it fun. But some scarier parts to give it some emotional oomph to get the story rolling.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia)The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia) by C.S. Lewis
Buy used from: $1.62
Was a lot more fun as a child until some adults had to ruin it for me by pointing out the religious references and making it more of a Sunday school session instead of a fun fantasy read.
